Such wood wasn’t standard, was it?https://www.gunbroker.com/Item/1055854827
I think it was luck of the draw. Mine is rather plain and I paid high for it. I saw one at the Reno show for $1,800 that made this one look like a piece of plain lumber. That was back when they were cheaper. I should have bought the one in Reno. Nicest one I have ever seen. The wood on these are prettier than M52 Sporters. I don’t know why. I don’t think the factory charged a premium for the fancy wood. Big Larry

Did that auction close for just $356? It was started at only $150, apparently without reserve. Am I living in an alternate universe?
EDIT: I just noticed the seller had an NR rating, which doesn’t always mean trouble but this looks too good to be true.

Unbelievable, but that’s what it looks like!!! I just ran across it today when it popped up in a 52 search. Looks like it was first listed yesterday, so how could it end so soon? I suspect something fishy has occurred.

Interesting… I’m thinking JWA snagged another one cheap! He has a way of doing that… and it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. I wish I could be as “timely” as Jeff is.
Well, I do to, but very hard to believe there wasn’t some other bidder willing to pay more than this–cheap for a standard 75! But I don’t think so, because the high bidder has a bid rating of only 17.
Since I missed this one, guess I’ll console myself by buying that “trophy” 52!
The seller’s description includes ‘The action was later modified to allow for a bit of an advantage compared to other rifles when it came to precision shooting’.
Is this a reference to the basic design of the 75, or some indication of this specimen having been ‘modified’. I don’t see anything obvious in the photos, but I’d have to take my 75’s out of the safe and compare closely, since I’m hardly an expert.
This posting and quick sale seems really odd. Something is amiss here.

The listing was up for less than 24 hours, that is not an available option when listing an item on GB. I thought I did well at RIAC a few months ago with this auction. Two Winchester Bolt Action Rifles | Rock Island Auction

I also wondered what mod seller was referring to. Could merely be some of the stupid nonsense often inserted in GB descriptions by sellers who misinterpret info they’ve found online or elsewhere.

If your 75 Sporting AND your nice 67A brought only $700 at a RI sale, maybe I’ve got an exaggerated idea of the value of the Sporting model–I thought they were in the 1 grand neighborhood.

Clarence, It was one of RI arms and accessories auctions not the big premiere ones. The 67A is a youth model to boot. You are correct about the good condition sporters bringing north of a grand.

Nate390, “winner” of the GB listing, is going to be VERY disappointed! So some scammer copied the GI listing & posted it on GB; no wonder the seller “cashed out” so quickly! Still don’t understand exactly how the thief can get away with his ill-gotten gains, as an electronic cash transfer can be withdrawn as quickly as it’s deposited.
The alleged “seller” on Gunbroker no longer has a GB account. Someone must have flagged the listing as fraudulent, which resulted in the listing being cancelled and the “seller” being given the boot. I doubt if the bidder ever sent any money, and if he/she did— well that person is in for a disappointment.
This is why I do not bid on items (including this one) listed by sellers with little or no feedback; too much risk and too big a chance of being scammed.
