Deluxe pistol grip Model 1890 on Gunbroker….

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=530836232

It’s a Frankenchester for sure, but can somebody really familiar with second and third model 1890’s look closely at pictures 7 and 8 and tell me if they see what I think I see? A very strange modification.

Yes, I see it, but I am having a hard time trying to figure out “why”, and “how” they did it??

They also faked the receiver serial number….no “A” under it.

You are correct… it is a true “Frankenchester”

I think what we are seeing is lens distortion in the photographs which makes the receiver a weird shape.

The part that is absolutely messed with is the breech block… it is a modified 2nd variation altered to fit a third variation receiver. The entire barrel assembly is a 2nd variation, with an altered serial number (illegal activity).

As I see it, it’s a second model receiver that was cut open to try to fit a third model bolt into it. The receiver serial number has been re-stamped to match the guard, but the proper “A” under it was left off. And the barrel address has been modified, re-stamped to read MOD. 1890 with uneven spacing and a final dot missing after the 1890. I suppose it had to be identified as a model 1890 somewhere..LOL

I emailed the seller and respectfully pointed out the errors. To his credit, he changed the description to read “Parts rifle as found.”
