Were the Model 75 Sporters (40765) drilled & tapped for scopes? Looking at a very high condition rifle that appears otherwise correct.

No, they were not d&t’d as standard but pre-WWII they could be special ordered with a Winchester scope which meant it would have come d&t’d with bases installed. The post-1954 rifles were grooved for Weaver Tip-Off mounts.

Thanks, it was a nice rifle but just didn’t look right. Rear base was at rear of receiver and front base on barrel in front of the receiver. I couldn’t see it but apparently the bases weren’t quite straight. Had a nice enough Lyman American scope but I passed. There was a later Sporter with a grooved receiver in the same collection but the regional buyer snagged it before I did. 🙁
