I only have the auction number, which I posted (934279277). Just enter it in the subject field. I have no training how to properly use my computer. I apologize for my lack of knowledge. Seems no one has the time to teach an old man how to use his computer. Just go to Gun Broker and post the auction number and it should show the auction. Worked for me. RDB

Roger, to copy a link, just touch the https address at the top of the page with your “pointer” & it will be copied automatically. Then hit “ctl” & “V” together on your keyboard & it will be copied where you want it to go. Try it, & if it doesn’t work for you, let me know.
Gun looks correct to me, a rank amateur on the subject, but this “Dual Sight” version isn’t worth as much as the “scope only” variant. If JWA spots this, he’ll no doubt elaborate.
You really need this in your collection, Roger. To make room for it in your safe, a certain gun you own can be transferred to me.
Thanks Clarence. I have managed to acquire two different prewar 697 rifles and one of the non-production 697A rifles, but not a “Duel Sight” rifle. Just not considering any new purchases at this time I seem to have consistently over paid for what I bought and the desire for my guns, at the price I paid , is lacking. Glad I bought what I liked! I don’t have too much to add, it looks fairly decent, the only thing that looks a bit odd to me is the stock finish, it is very dull and may not be original but it could also just be the lighting.
Everything else looks correct except for the obvious replacement magazine.
Good luck with the auction!

The stock looks sanded. Look at the pictures of the underside of the fore end. There are dark dents that were not steamed out, and they are darker than the surface. Look at the bolt notch and magazine release button hole….much darker.
$700+ seems like a lot to me, but I know you pay about 25%-75% more on Gunbroker usually. I’ve bought Winchester 52s with scopes for that much.

No bargains on GB! Prices are always well above average gunshop or gunshow prices. However, it’s the scarcity of this model, compared to 52s, that determines what some will pay. Not to mention Jeff A.’s fabulous new book on them, which has magnified interest in these scarce models.
Agree that the stock looks refinished, but nicely done.
Magazine is a Wisner’s, worth about $20.
The scope has the greenish finish often seen on an 8-X, but the objective and ocular housings indicate a 5X.
The mounts and dual sight blocks are also for 5X or 2 3/4X scopes.
The proof marks appear to be struck more deeply than usual.
Looks like a pretty nice rifle…

Hadn’t previously read seller’s description, but just did–says scope is by “unknown” maker. If some do-gooder busybody informs him, he’ll change his description to “factory original scope” for sure.
Actually, my point was that the scope looked like a 5X, and not the 8X indicated in the title of the thread. The screws on the body of the scope are also consistent with a 5X.
However (again), the finish looks like the greenish “japanned” finish found on many/most 8-X scopes. It may well be a legit 5X, but I just haven’t seen one before with that finish (which, IMO, I like better than the black lacquer, which seems to more easily get scratched up).
