Normally, I don’t do auctions, but as a former M52 collector, this early #1225 intrigued me. 102 years old and not in bad shape at all. Bore is a little iffy though.
I decided to take a chance on this rifle. The pics were poor and had to ask for better pics of the area of the famous Crack of Doom. Got pics. No crack. Nice blue on the bbl. but the receiver had the usual flaking of many of the early rifles. The trigger housing was devoid of any blue. It had the wrong magazine and a Lyman 17-A front sight. Now I know why I saved my last Shark Fin sight.
All in all, a nice rifle. Not up to my collecting standards, but when is the last time a 102 year old M52 has been seen on the loose.
A little over $900 and a slew of auction fees brought the price to over $1,000. Worth every penny, I think.
Here’s a couple pics, all they had. Very poor photography. Big Larry
