Special order shotgun butt? SRC DOM 1903. “U” notch 44 rear sight is not correct so I would guess the butt stock also. ??♂️

Have you checked with Cody about it? With the exception of the barrel bands the rifle looks in fine condition. The wood and metal finish are of equal quality and appearance. It would be nice if they included a photo of the butt plate.
If you want I will be happy to stop by and take a look at the rifle for you. I explain that I am looking at the gun for an out of state buyer and they have no problems at all. It’s only about 4 miles or so from my house. I have bought a couple rifle from them and they are fine to deal with. Cash is king and they will deal a “bit”.

I really appreciate the offer Michael but it was just an observation when browsing their website.

I’m surprised that this is pending at $4495. For a 1903 production carbine in decent but not spectacular condition and in the less desirable .32 Special, it seems high!
Same thoughts here. Wondering of someone bought this during their 20% off black Friday sale. Even so, the $3600 price still seems high.

I don’t like the look of the barrel bands and that front sight is a NO GO for me. Not even worth half the asking price in my opinion.
Sincerely,
Maverick

I’ve had many carbines with the barrel bands that colour & with the 94c front marbles sight. The bluing is excellent. You can always switch the U notch rear 44 rear sight for a period correct V notch. The shotgun butt is my question. For this kind of money you would think they would show one or mention it where it is in letter range(1903) but maybe that’s where Clarence has hit the nail on the head. ??♂️
Decent looking gun to Me. I have had several high $ deals with Collectors without issue, yes Their asking prices are high but so are Mine and They have always been approachable price wise, and more than willing to answer any questions ,(by phone),or send more and better pictures. They do offer a examination period. If I was looking for a bargain it probably wouldn’t be at Collectors but They do come up with some rare pieces. Just My experience

I purchased a few nice Winchesters from them in the past and a couple are still viewable in their archives. Sometimes you can score a decent deal if you negotiate or hit one of their sales. I bought the 1894 38-55 takedown on their 20% off black Friday sale for $4,200.

I’ve been meaning to stop by when I visit Houston but so far have not succeeded. I would not hesitate to buy a gun I like from them, but I’d suspect just browsing their inventory would be worth the trip.
Prices? It costs plenty to attract, find and market high quality collector firearms.

Mike, what do you mean attract & find? If you’re operating a gun store, esp. one in business long enough to be well known, the deals walk right through your front door on their own legs. People who inherit or otherwise acquire guns they have no interest in keeping generally desire only to turn them into cash as quickly & effortlessly as possible. And as Rick always tells the people bringing guns into his pawn shop, auctions are unpredictable, & you’ll probably have to wait months for your money.

Clarence, what you say is true but not always for the major auctions houses. They have large expenses. Just printing and mailing a color catalog can cost a couple hundred thousand dollars. These guys have mailing lists in the 10’s of thousands. I know not everyone gets a catalog and some have to pay for it but these large houses do have large expenses. Eventually the buyers pay for it all and then some.
I lived in Houston in the early 80’s and made many trips there. I bought from them and did some trading as well. I recall there was Jerry Fountain and Mike Clark. A young Danny Clark was around too, who I think was Mike’s nephew. Their prices I’ve seen on the internet in recent years usually leave me shaking my head.
