Here are some photos of my 1892, sn 210089.  Bore, unlike the exterior, is beautiful and accuracy spot on at 100 yards.  I took these pix in bright sunlight because the “patina” (aka rust) isn’t as obvious in indirect light.

I’d take that honest Patina any day of the week!

Nice looking Rifle.

I like it also. Interesting the condition of the receiver and then the amount of CC on lever. Peter

Nice looking turn of the century 1892.  The magazine tube looks like it was well cared for with no dings, which are common when one of these rifles is left lying around.

44 WCF!  Outdoor lighting was so bright and the rifle so slathered with oil that it was difficult to position it for a good closeup of the caliber.DSC_0004-1.JPGImage Enlarger

I too was pleasantly surprised to see CCH on the lever when I first saw it.  Very little remains on the hammer.  BK

Very nice! It’s amazing what bright sunlight will bring out in a gun’s finish. Good honest gun, well cared for thru the generations.

Beautiful rifle. I’d be very pleased to have a ’92 44-40 that looked that nice in my collection.

Look at all the red at the muzzle and blisters under blue.  Last pic is just for fun; some “companion” 44s from 1892, 1897, and 1956.

Still think it’s a fine looking gun. That color at the muzzle looks as much like copper as it does iron oxide to me, either way a bit of Kroil should do the trick.

Hello Bruce,

I own SN 210071 in 38 WCF!   That is a fine rifle and I am sure it is very accurate.  Not used a lot but could have been cared for a bit better.  Still very nice.  Congrats.  Can you please post a detail photo of the barrel address stamp?  I want to enter it into my data.

Thanks

Michael

Does look like result of shooting jacketed bullets, and if so, one of the brass/copper solvents like Sweets will work much faster than Kroil; but those “black blisters” are indeed the result of long-established rust that may have already caused some minor pitting in the surface.

Yes, it’s definitely rust pitting on the barrel’s outer surface, and I can feel the roughness of it.  But although forty-five years younger (I just look young for my age!), I too am covered with rust.  Regarding the bore, I wish I could take a focused up-close photo down the tube because it is very bright with no pitting and/or frosting…I promise to work on my photographic technique when time allows.

Michael, I’ll dig the rifle out of the vault tomorrow or next day and take a photo of the barrel address for your records.

Michael, here’s the barrel address…phone photo, don’t know why it turned 90 degrees when it’s horizontal in my file.

Thanks Bruce.  That is the number 2 Style of barrel address which was only used for 2 years on the Model 1892 rifles.

Wait, I’m not finished!  Just messing around, I took these two photos this evening using my i-phone.  Never before have I used it for close-up or any kind of serious photography, and I’m amazed at the clarity.  You can see some erosion from rust at the muzzle but the lands and grooves still look sharp.  BKFullSizeRender1.jpgImage Enlarger  FullSizeRender.jpgImage Enlarger

A Beauty, Bruce.  Seems to have had few shots fired from it.

I’m more of a ’94 guy, but your rifle has me drooling!
