I cannot really call myself a Winchester collector although I have collected one.you have to start somewhere.anyway when I bought my model 71 it was sold to me by a reputable gunshop as all original and I believe it is.it came with the bolt peep and that was great as I cannot see open sights anymore but can use aperture sights ok. the peep was there but the aperture was missing.the only thing missing on the gun.fortunally I had a skinner express sights on my marlin1895 45-70 guide gun along with 5 apertures in a set..040 .070 .096 .125 .155. they fit perfectely.the ghost ring is ok for hunting but on targets I like something much smaller.if you need apertures skinner sights are made right.john.hopse this is in the right place

Well if your going to start collecting Winchester you sure picked a nice one to start with. My dad had a model 71 and it was my second deer rifle (once my younger brother was old enough to hunt the model 94 went down to him)

great rifle wish I could afford one now.
