Thanks Brad.  Didn’t mean to hijack Gary’s original post but thought our rifles were similar in that they both letter with special order sights,  set trigger and semi deluxe.

Great thread. I really like set triggered rifles with special features. The comments and pictures have been great. Thanks for sharing. I have a avg condition nickel plated 25-35 rifle that letters with DST, Lyman tang, and front sights. It’s also an R&R rifle.

Here is a picture. Only about 60-70%  trim remaining on receiver. Not home, but I believe letter reads, 25-35, nickel trim, cupped rear, Lyman front, dst, repaired 1905 or 1907. B15467A7-B905-494C-ADA6-7F42FBC22D73.jpegImage Enlarger

CPC,

That is an interesting rifle, with nice features. I’m no expert, but I don’t think there were many model 1894’s ordered with factory nickel trim.  I like the fact that everything letters.

Very neat rifle.  Love the sights (and that they letter), love the barrel length and love that it is an antique.  It’s not top condition but shows use rather than abuse.  There’s some nice character here.  I think it’s priced a bit high but I get sticker shock easy.

Nick,

That is an interesting rifle.  Looks to be all original and like steve said well used but not abused.

Folks,

I was reviewing Collectors Firearms web site, Archives of sold Winchester model 1894’s and found that they had sold a semi deluxe that is a consecutive serial number to the semi deluxe I have, which I posted here on page 2 above. Mine is SN 143826, and the one that sold is 143827, http://archives.collectorsfirearms.com/?category=943&subcategory=977&category=&product=w4838.

Both are semi deluxe, set trigger, take downs, and octagon barrels.

If anyone has serial number 143827, or knows who has it, I’d love to know.

Thanks,

Al

Sorry, I don’t know where that rifle is, but it certainly would be fun to own the consecutive set.  I took a little time to look at a few 1894’s Collector’s had.  One question emerged – is Collector’s Firearms still using the Madis numbers to determine antique status?  I came across this one they recently sold.  I checked the Madis book and sure enough, he indicates 1897 manufacture.  Our site here indicates 1901 manufacture.

Antique Winchester 1894 .30-30 caliber saddle ring carbine. Serial number 110578 and gun was made in 1897. Excellent (w4093)

Antique Winchester 1894 .30-30 caliber saddle ring carbine. Serial number 110578 and gun was made in 1897. Excellent original blue on both barrel and receiver. Gun was returned to Winchester at a later date as it now has Winchester proofs on barrel receiver. Case colors still remain on lever. Bore is excellent. This is a very nice antique 94.

And then there’s this one from their archives.  I was initially excited.  An 1894 18 inch barreled carbine made in 1894.  In .30-30!  Wow, I wanted to see that.  I click on the description and sure enough, they say 1894 manufacture.  Then, I run the number (111071) through our site and sure enough, far from 1894 manufacture – 1901 manufacture.  But the kicker is they even post a museum letter and that letter specifies 1901.  I think it’s quite the stretch to justify antique status (Madis says 1897 manufacture) when you have (and post) a museum letter specifying 1901.

Winchester 1894 .30-30 caliber rifle. Scarce with 18″ barrel. Very nice gun with 90% original blue. Antique gun made in 1894 mad (W5204)

Winchester 1894 .30-30 caliber rifle. Scarce with 18″ barrel. Very nice gun with 90% original blue. Antique gun made in 1894 made in .30-30. Wood i original and unaltered and in very good shape. Bore is excellent. An 18″ 1894 Winchester is a very rare gun.

Steve,

I think you’re right. They must be using Madis numbers.
