For you rimfire geeks, here is a non-typical pair of 1885 Single Shot rifles that followed me home the past couple of months.
Top is a 1908 .22 Short caliber Take-down (very cool) High Wall with a 24” #3 barrel, formerly from the collection of Bert Hartman (some of you probably saw it on his table at Cody this year).
———————————————————————————————————
Bottom is an 1899 .22 Short caliber High Wall with a 26” #3 barrel, Swiss butt plate, Mid-range rear and Globe front sight and set trigger, formerly from the collection of Larry Reynolds (Big Larry).
Thanks to both gentlemen for sharing their collection with me, both rifles found a loving home and are in good company.

Jeff, now you need to begin looking for the special tweezers originally provided to load Shorts into a HW chamber!
Yeah, my stubby fingers and arthritic joints are no help at all….

Some gallery shooters solved this problem by having the right side of the rcvr milled down to permit easy loading. So why didn’t they have their rifles built on LW rcvrs? Because the #3 wt. brl couldn’t be fitted to the LW rcvr, & if they wanted double-set triggers, the same reason–the factory wouldn’t fit them to the LW rcvr.

A dandy pair of High Walls. Bert has certainly steered you on a much more expensive rimfire path. But honestly, those are a couple of great looking 22 shorts that should be fun to pop a few rounds through. All the better they came from good friends.
Yup, collecting Winchesters is not as much about the rifles as it is the people, and WACA people are the best!
And yes, I normally pay MUCH less for my standard bolt action .22s, but as Bert said, it is not a .22 collection without an 1885 .22 short High Wall……
And I am a sucker for small bores in a big octagon barrel. 😉

Jeff-
Great rifles, very glad you bought that one from Bert because I probably would have tried to talk him out of it before the end of the show. Part of the rimfire attraction is the (typically) lower prices but those two are certainly excellent and fitting additions to any Winchester collection. Nicely done!

Thanks Tom!
Wish I had better lighting for the photos, as you know they look much better in person.
It was great seeing you and Larry last week.
