Fellows

Here is an 1894 short rifle I’ve had for a while now but finally took some time to snap some pictures. This is one of my favorites due to the many unique features it has that lend to a very specific buyer back then.

This specimen is a 22″ round barrel take-down in 30 WCF, as most of these shorties were. The scarce features are the 3/4 magazine, the sling and swivels, and the sights that letter ……… all of them. Someone specifically called out a Lyman 21, a flat top sporting rear and a Lyman #4 hunting. All in the letter, all correct. I’m not as big a fan of the shotgun butt, but it letters as well and is of the smooth steel early style.

Oh, and almost forgot to mention one of the previous owners (that frequents this forum) will certainly recall this rifle. Likely a familiar name to most on the letter. That adds a little more appeal for me too.

Thanks for sharing this special rifle. Can’t help but wonder about the other rifles mentioned in the letter. If the other four rifles shipped In that order were as interesting as this one they would be quite a find!

Yes, many nice features on this rifle.  I like all the features and particularly love the Lyman receiver sight and also the shotgun butt Wink

I have to add the take-down feature, 3/4 magazine , short rifle aspect and what looks like the original sling really call to me as well.  Very very cool rifle.

Thanks for the comments guys. The original sling was probably the tipping point for me on this one. Although its likely not the one that came with the gun, its correct and has the patent dates on the buckles. It fits nice and makes for a nice package. I’ve had several others that letter with sling eyes, but don’t call out the sling as well.

Nice ’94 Gary I love them “short ” rifles. I think I’ve only had one ’94 with a 3/4 mag., hard to find. This one is kinda similar but to late to letter;20211122_190241.jpgImage Enlarger20211201_164727.jpgImage Enlarger20211201_164734.jpgImage Enlarger20211201_164743.jpgImage Enlarger20211201_164815.jpgImage Enlarger

Gary,

I like that the letter calls out the sling as well.  I have a model 1894 that does also:

Brad – you are welcome to use mine for one of the calendars. I doubt my photos are up to your expectations though. I guess we can go out on the lawn at Cody again and shoot some good ones.
