OK, I’ve broken my rules and viewed Kirk Stovall’s 1886 article electronically. I can’t wait to see the hard copy pics even though he’s posted awesome pics of this rifle (I think!) on the forum. Kirk has an eye for awesome and exceptional rifles and is a valued resource on the Whitney, Burgess and Kennedy rifles as well as Indian Wars history.
Not going to steal any thunder, articles like this one is why it’s good to be a WACA member!

Concur. The Stovall piece is top shelf.

I’m still waiting on my Spring 2024 issue. The mule train bringing the mail must be held up in the mountains…
I’m not doing much better, mine showed up just before I headed for the TGCA show in Waco so I stuck it in my briefcase….and it’s still there.

I’m hoping more Collector copies are arriving daily, hope you’ll receive yours soon if you haven’t yet. Don’t forget to mail in your ballot!
I finally fished my copy out of my briefcase and enjoyed it very much. Our own Zebulon wrote an interesting article about a Model 70 rifle that quite honestly would not interest some purist collectors but it is a classic rifle, nonetheless. It’s an attractive rifle, lovingly restored and used like it was intended to be used. Bill’s account of its restoration was interesting to me as I know a few of the folks involved. The closing paragraph made some points that may cause me to rethink my attitude toward collecting Model 70’s.
Grant Tom’s reflections on his visits to the Custom Shop were a fascinating peek into the history of Winchester. Many of us would have loved to spend time with these old master craftsmen using their traditional methods and machinery. They certainly don’t make them like that any more!
And yes, I had to re-read Shrapnel’s article on his beautiful 50 caliber prairie dog rifle. I hope he gets to take it after something bigger this coming season.
Once again the Collector made me glad to be a WACA member. Good stuff!

I was informed this morning that my copy has arrived in the SeaTac WA area this morning… I should see it in my mailbox on Friday or Saturday this week!
Bert, My son lives in Issaquah. From what I’ve seen of some of the mail carriers in King County, it may depend on the quality of their smoking material.

It has to get out of King County and across the Sound to Kitsap County! Old Galloping Gertie is sometimes a treacherous trip!

Aeroelastic flutter is one of Nature’s ways of teaching marine and aeronautical engineers humility. The boys at Lockheed got the same lesson. Unfortunately, so did some Braniff passengers.
