Hi Guys,

I was wondering about a good source for Winchester 1886 parts especially barrels. I have used Homestead, Numrich, and Old Idaho over the years for sourcing some parts and screws. Numrich last time I looked only had parts for the modern Winchester 1886 by Miroku. Occasionally Homestead has barrels to offer. I haven’t done any business with Winchester Barrels but was considering them. I was on their website it doesnt seemed to have been updated lately. I have an 1886 parts rifle I was considering building into a rifle. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Rob

Rob-

I think you’re on the right track with Winchester Barrels or whatever they are called. I think Mark Douglas has talked about them in a few videos and there have been a few discussions about them of this forum. Don’t overlook the possibility this 1886 may be worth more as parts than a complete gun. I don’t like the idea of parting out guns but it sounds like the process has already been started in this case. Old parts keep old guns and our hobby running.

Thanks for the reply Mike. I considered parting the gun out but like you I generally don’t line to do that. This rifle is complete as is and the action is in very good condition. I got it for a good very good price. Its an antique (1894) and is a round barrel 45-70 but had the barrel and mag tube cut down by at least two inches. Its missing the mag tube hanger too. The bore is like black iron pipe but it could be used as is and was from what I understand. By replacing the barrel and mag tube it would be a really nice rifle.

Rob:

I agree with you on keeping that 1886 as sound as you can. One other possible source is John Madl, who has many parts, as I just got a complete ejector from him. There are loose barrels out there, it’s just finding them. I even have a pre-war Model 71 1936  barrel. Should you get impatient with it all. send me a PM-I may be able to help in another direction. Don’t forget the other sites, as shops advertise online more now.
