Other than the usual pre-requisites such as use the correct sized screwdriver it is a pretty simple disassembly.  The looseness can be caused by the tenon block loose in the barrel dovetail but is more likely simply wood shrinkage.  Both are easily correctable.

JWA,  I removed the forearm on my 63, It is the tenon block that is wore on the dovetail , Can you help me locate a new one? I did a quick search with no results,

Thank You Jeff

Hi Jeff,

The usual sources seem to be out of stock but I would try calling Wendel at Outback Gun Parts, he usually has a good assortment of Winchester odds and ends.  http://www.outbackgunparts.com/index.html

You might try shimming it first with some thin brass shim stock.  That should work for quite awhile.

for shim material- just find or buy a cheap feeler guage set

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....
