So, I bought an original 1886 in 40-65. It was a basket-case, rusted froze, twisted upper tang and was missing the lower tang and some internals. I had wanted an original since I was 12. Now I have one.
This thing was missing the lower tang. I didn’t realize how difficult it would be to find an original lower tang. I found out quickly. After looking at a Miroku tang online for a few days, I decided to buy it. I did successfully modify this tang being very careful not to affect the original receiver. I advise people not to do this. It was a nightmare. It works fine and shoots good. I have since found an original tang. Modification can be done, but it requires pretty much a machine shop. I had to use a mill, drill press, taps, dies, files and a TIG welder.
