Lately I’m having problems uploading images straight from my computer onto the forum. Don’t know how long this has been an issues, as Its been a while since I’ve needed to post a image in a response or topic.
I keep getting an error message. “1.jpg: Error 108 – Could not create user folder”
Sincerely,
Maverick

Just uploaded this photo from my PC as a test. The original is 1.95 Mb and it took about 10 seconds to upload. The uploaded photo shows to be 682 Kb so it looks like it was compressed in the process to boot. Not computer savvy enough to know what’s happening but it seems to have something to do with user permissions and logon failure. You might check to see if you are logged in when you attempt to upload. Also, there are 2 places to log on here; one is the forum only and the main one is for everything????
"This is the West, sir. When the legend becomes fact, print the legend."
Even more aggravating using a 3rd party host. Started out several yrs ago using Flicker, until they required users to log in through Yahoo, which I abominate. Then used Photobucket until now, the pop-up ads are so overwhelming that it’s become just maddening to use. Recently heard of another service called Imagur that’s supposed to be much easier to use, but haven’t had an opportunity to check it out yet.

That’s imgur.com and I’ve used it for a few years since Photobucket turned weird on me.[Image Can Not Be Found]
Signed up with Imgur, downloaded photo from my computer to their site, and tried 3 times to post it here, with the result shown above.
This is the address I inserted in photo box:
Any idea why isn’t it working?
Be warned, if you use Imgur to third-party host pictures here on the WACA forum you are subject to cancellation just like Photobucket. Here is the quote taken from Imgur’s Terms of Service which all Imgur users agreed to:
“Also, don’t use Imgur to host image libraries you link to from elsewhere, content for your website, advertising, avatars, or anything else that turns us into your content delivery network. If you do – and we will be the judge – or if you do anything illegal, in addition to any other legal rights we may have, we will ban you along with the site you’re hotlinking from, delete all your images, report you to the authorities if necessary, and prevent you from viewing any images hosted on Imgur.com. We mean it.”

I know this may be a little much for some, but even though I’m a WACA member, I still like to hotlink my images inline. I think they are less cumbersome and I host my images on dropbox.com so that I can get to them from my mobile devices and share them elsewhere should I need or want to.
Dropbox is free for 2GB.Plenty for images and a lot more. It automagically syncs a folder you choose on your local computer with your cloud account. So if you want to post a pic somewhere you just drag it to that folder (or subfolder that you choose) and then right click and get the share link for that image (or get it from the dropbox site or in the dropbox app on your mobile device).
Then, when posting a pic here, instead of uploading an attachment, click the image link when you are typing a post and fill in the URL and description (if you want) in the pop up box. I also like that you can set the display size, which doesn’t change the actual image size but sets it as it will appear in the post, but clicking on the image will show it full size. Useful because you can scroll through a bunch of images in the post and see more than just a thumbnail, but still open the image (in another window or tab if you set it that way in the pop up) to see all the detail.
All this is covered in the opener to this thread, so I ramble I guess, but my point is that dropbox.com is a good place to host for many reasons and works across your computer, phone, tablet, etc. Even multiple devices and computers should you desire.
But here’s the trick:
When you copy the share URL and enter it into the Insert Image pop up, change the copied URL, which looks something like this:
You need to change it to this:
Just change the “www” to “dl” and remove everything after the .jpg (or .png, etc). The first URL is the dropbox page with your image on it, the second is the direct link to the image on that page.
I probably made it sound more complicated than it is, but when you get the hang of it, it’s really easy to post images from your phone or computer or wherever you happen to be.
Well, it’s a suggestion at least, but I’ve been using this technique for years and it makes life so much easier and you aren’t a slave to imgur or photobucket (“Hey photobucket, 2005 called. They want their website back!”)

Since posting photos on this and similar websites is the ONLY REASON I have for using their service, it’s an unavoidable risk.
“Report you to the authorities.” I love it.

Never have had any problem with using imgur, which I switched to after photobucket reduced the resolution of photos stored there.
I never had any problem with Photobucket either until the last few years. Like Clarence, I only used it for posting pictures to this site and a few others but I suspect the trend will eventually encompass all of the “free” sites.
Since I now need to find a new home for hosted pictures used on forums I am hesitant to move to a site such as Imgur which already states upfront that it is not an acceptable usage of their system, regardless of whether anyone has had a problem (yet) with them.
I will check out the dropbox option and see if that will work for me.
