I’ve used Midway almost exclusively since they opened, though I’ve haven’t needed anything for several years. But now I do, so yesterday I searched their site for a few items, in the course of which I was dismayed to discover that they’ve expanded into a Cabela’s or Bass Pro kind of emporium, with HUNDREDS of selections of boots, pants, shirts, “tactical” crapola. All this discourages me somewhat, because it’s obvious they’ve lost their focus, though I’m not forgetting their strong support for NRA, which is another reason I always preferred to buy from them. However, I’m not so sure anymore, which is why I’m soliciting suggestions for a possible alternative supplier.
I’ve done a good deal of business with a variety of entities over the years, especially Midway. Although not always the cheapest in price (or shipping charges) they often have what I’m looking for when I need it; they’ve been very convenient. The only problem I’ve had with them (several times) is damage in shipment usually caused by improper packaging. I’ve brought it to their attention and can honestly say of late my items have been packaged much better. Also, have never had an issue with Midway “making it right” no questions asked. Grafs and Sinclair have been exceptional in every respect.
You asked for it…HTH. Just one man’s opinion based upon sufficient experience.
Midway is my choice for reloading equipment. Bullets and such are added to orders sometimes if they are more convenient or I need to fill that shipping box, otherwise I purchase those locally or through other internet vendors depending on the selection. I like Midway’s “Round-up for the NRA” feature as well. I buy powders from a local distributor. Have never had a bad experience with Midway other than one time an item was missing from the order–and they sent out the next day, no questions asked. Great folks there.

Clarence, what are you looking for? I shop the internet until I find the best price, including shipping.
Just some bullets & brass–common stuff not hard to find. My “mistake” was wandering into the lists of sale merchandise–around 400 items, not 10% of which had anything to do with reloading. Probably been selling such stuff for a good while, without me knowing anything about it; just can’t understand why the company would change its original “mission,” in order to compete with the likes of Cabela’s & Bass Pro–which are now one & the same, because there evidently wasn’t enough business to keep them both profitable.

I’ve been a Midway customer since their “catalog” was little more than a flyer. I like their core products and have never seen much need to stray off into their other offerings. I had the pleasure of meeting and visiting with Larry Potterfield a couple of years ago. He’s just as nice and genuine as he seems to be but he’s trying to take less of an active role in the operation of the company. I’ve had to look for some components of older cartridges elsewhere, including Buffalo Arms. You may have noticed that Brownell’s has branched out from their gunsmithing supply offerings to ammunition and reloading. Both companies are solid 2A supporters. I don’t like seeing companies getting away from their roots but one of the metrics of success in today’s business world is growth, usually including growth into related markets. I’m looking forward to visiting the new Scheels store being built nearby, I prefer to shop for some things in person at a brick and mortar store.

I usually shop the web for best price alternating between Natchez, Midsouth, Midway, and Gamaliel (now selling through Brownells). Have never had an issue with any of those companies. Powder is almost always an excuse to make a day trip to Houston- Lohman Arms is a stop I like to make…
