Does anyone know if there was ever a book published about the Model 1892, or if anybody is working on one ?

Thx. Dave

1. “Winchester Lever Action Repeating Firearms Volume 2 The Models of 1886 and 1892” by Arthur Pirkle

2. “Winchester Model 1892 Carbine” by Gary Twesten

Hello David,

Well hopefully I haven’t been wasting a LOT of time over the past 7 years collecting information for an eventual book on the 1892’s.  So far I have cataloged more than 13,200 individual rifles in an effort to collect enough data to produce a reference book.  I am more than happy to answer any questions which you might have.

Sorry Michael, I know you are collecting data.  I hope to see your book.

Thanks for all the helpful replies to this question – the 1892 is my favorite only ahead of the 1894.

I’ll be waiting in line for Michael’s book when it’s ready.

Thx again. David

Which would be the better of these two books, out of interest?

Pirkle’s book is a good one to have.  I have never seen Twesten’s book so I can’t comment.

Alan,

Neither one of them is what I would consider “must have” information, but of the two, Pirkle’s book has more descriptive information.

Hello,

Pirkle’s book regurgitates much of the “rarity” numbers and stamped writing information from Madis so they are pretty much useless.  His information on parts dimensions would be helpful.
