OfflineHey guys I have a Browning model 65 that I need the hood for the front sight.. I say need well it does not have one with it. Upon looking at the front sight there is a pin of sorts on the right side of the sight. Is that to hold the hood in place where it slides on
I have no idea if that link works for a pic. Can you still post pics directly onto the sight here?

OfflineWithout seeing a photo, your description is too vague. Is the front sight a blade? If so, Is the pin transverse to the sight base? If so, d oes the pin penetrate the base of the sight? If so, does the face of the pin appear on both sides of the sight base? If those things are true, the pin holds a replaceable sight blade in the base.
Does the sight base have parallel horizontal grooves, one on each side? Those would be for mounting the sight hood by sliding it into and along those grooves until it stopped. If there are no grooves, the gun was not furnished with hood.
If the gun were made and furnished with a hood, it would be a part made by Browning and the (very hard to get) Winchester hood would not fit.

OfflineI can’t seam to get a photo posted. will try once more. yes the sight is suppose to have a cover. the sight is original to the rifle. it does have grooves on both sides for it to slide into place. but about 3/4 of the way back on the right side is a small pin. it does not go all the way through to the other side. i was just wondering if the original hood had a notch in it to lock it in place.

Yes, you can directly upload pictures as long as you are a WACA member in good standing.

I do not see any upload attachments link. Have been a member for a long time. I use to be able to use imgur.
Actually, you are a WACA Guest member per your profile, and as such, your only option is to use Imgur (or similar). If you are a full WACA member, what is your WACA ID number?

Do you see that small pin towards the back of the sight? It is in the slot that the hood would slide into
Take a look at this. Look at the sights Bert posted. Yours does not appear to have the hood groove, or it is just the picture?

OfflineThe hood groove is very plain to see on my end. That is what I was referring to.
Ok I just found this. The hood may or may not be the right one but if you look through the pics of this hood you will see a notch on the right side at the bottom that I am quite sure would corollate with the groove on mine that has the pin sticking out of the right side in the groove. That is the info I was looking for..The pin in the groove of my sight is suppose to be there so that the hood will not slide off..Let me know if it all makes sense now???? Check link below

OfflineUpdate: The gunsmith I use had a Browning hood for the 65. Received it today and it is on the rifle and looks great. I am glad I decided to find one as my eyes focus much faster now locating the round hood first instead of the tiny brass pin.
Thanks to all that replied

OfflineGood news! Hoods are the first thing to get lost and, when the rifle goes out of production, a replacement can be difficult to find and costly if you find one. The WRA #3277 hood for a Winchester Model 64 is an example of “difficult and costly” The #3279 hood for the Model 52 Sporting is impossible at any price.
The Browning Model 53 32/20 I once foolishly sold was a very high quality piece. I never even saw a B65; they were not distributed well in the DFW area.
The continually rising price of those Browning Classics is an index of their quality and desirability. I have the Browning Models 12 and 42 and hold on to them tightly.
Congratulations on restoring your rifle to “complete and original.”
