Hi Steve-
No I did not participate in the auction. From the hammer price it went for far more than I could afford anyway. I was up at Redding’s last week looking at some other guns that will be in a future auction and Pat (Redding) showed us the three that he was selling this past Saturday, including the 9 M/M.
Best,
Lot

Hi Dana-
As I said, I didn’t go up there to look at that gun specifically, but I did get to give it a quick look-see… I went there to meet up with another WACA member and while we were there we looked at some nice M70s that will be in an upcoming auction that hasn’t posted yet…
But Pat Redding was gracious enough to show us the M70s that were going to be in the 3/12 auction. There was a real nice 375 H&H MAGNUM Standard in its original box, and an equally nice 22 HORNET Standard in a repro box (that was described as a repro in the auction listing). I admit I had some concerns with the 9 M/M, but as you know these guns are so rare that there are more counterfeits out there than real ones. So genuine “experts” don’t really exist… PM me if you want to know my concerns. I don’t like to openly comment about guns after they’ve sold…
BTW… For those WACA folks who aren’t familiar with Redding’s, their gun auctions have NO RESERVE and NO BUYER’S PREMIUM (if you bid directly with them either on-site, by phone, or by absentee bid). The 15% premium only applies if you use a third party hosting service like Proxybid. IMHO this is a good deal, especially for consignors, since people will bid more knowing there’s no “juice” to factor in and the consignor’s take is based on the hammer price…
It’s not enough to get Clarence to give up his well justified disdain for auction houses… But I’ve no complaints with these guys…
