I ran across someone selling a used target on Ebay that he shot at with a repo Winchester 73 in 45 cal. He has a $1 bid already. Should I be selling my old targets instead of using them for starting a fire in the fireplace? I should be able to get at least $5 since mine are the guns that really won the West.

Look at about 2:20.
I had an idea for a year or so that WACA should give this guy a WACA hat, T-Shirt and let him shoot some authentic guns. Ever look at the number of views?
Brad
This one has 650,000 views. Maybe there is a way to get him some kind of WACA sponsorship in exchange for some airtime?
Sounds like if you gave him a 44-40 73 he wouldn’t want to shoot it. He seems to love his 45.
So what have we learned here, If you sell something worthless that is featured in a YouTube video its now worth something.

In the past on the forum there have been discussions about collector interest and young people. All I’m trying to point out is that there is an intelligent, well spoken and popular individual talking about and shooting old lever guns or replicas. He’s doing it on the internet. I looked up his highest viewed videos: https://www.youtube.com/user/hickok45/videos?flow=grid&view=0&sort=p
I see there is one on the Henry Rifle that has 2,350,000 views. Maybe he would shoot some original Winchesters if offered the chance. I don’t know. It just looks like an opportunity to me I guess. I can’t speak for the target other than it is an example of his popularity.

I think Brad could be on to something here. about 3 -4 years ago a younger guy (30’s) discovered Hickok45 on internet and told me about it. I tried watching some on my internet , I watched some, but with weak internet the video was stopped more than it was rolling. ( I have only recently got good internet, so I am a bit more behind the times than most ) But the bottom line is that this is how younger generation whiles away their time in a much more direct and efficient method than we had. Even if the viewer was only interested in black guns there will be a Hickok video mixed in on the side selection ( in the typical utube style) that they may click on out of curiosity. Our generation had Westerns (a big percentage of early TV programming) to get us interested,( and drive up our Winchester and Colt prices) . Now no more Westerns, actually usually not much on at all , out of the 200 channels I get 196 are crappy. But also if he was shooting antiques I know I would enjoy it regardless of the promotional value
The bid on the target is now $51.00 ?
Phil
Auction ended at $66

That’s great Rick. For what it’s worth, I would really like to see a WACA channel on YouTube where members could post videos. Of course they should be submitted to WACA first so that we could ensure that they represented our organization appropriately. I think there would be a lot of interest and it could raise some money for WACA since a portion of the advertising revenue is shared by YouTube with those who submit videos that get lots of views.
