I’ve been a member of WACA for a good number of years now and have come to ask myself this question. What is this organization supposed to be about? I’ve always thought that it was to help the Winchester Collector to be a better more informed individual. Perhaps to educate, to inspire the Collector of Winchester’s to find out for himself what is or isn’t important, be it proven fact or mere speculation.
. I’ve now come to the conclusion WACA has morphed into a collection of a few people, especially some of the folks that have control of OUR organization’s different departments, with over-inflated egos that tend to feel that only their "Informed" opinion has any value. That only they know what information is worthy or not. I would like to think that perhaps I’m wrong, but as time goes by I’m afraid that I just might be right. To the Officers and other Officials in the WACA organization please try to get over yourselves. Remember WACA belongs to ALL of its membership and not just the few. Thank you, Apache #2576 🙄
I was a member once. I’m not now, solely due to my own laziness in not re-upping. I liked the magazine and the calendar. Someone needs to get me a subscription for Christmas or Birthday (honey, are you reading this?)
While I am a pup compared to a lot of you old farts, I have been in and around countless organizations all my life and I’ve found they are all the same in certain aspects that have to do with "plank holders", pecking order, personality, politics, hurt feelings, etc. It is not unique to ANY group. It is human nature. It is the way it is and always will be.
My recommendation is to milk everything you can possibly get out of it, including information and expertise from those who rub you the wrong way. Don’t perceive yourself as being anywhere in the food chain. Just eat. And if you think someone else thinks you are to be eaten, let them think that. It’s not true. You’d shoot them in the face if they tried. Right? This is not real. Laugh, milk them and move on.
That’s my nickel.

Maybe if "Apache" shared with us the root cause of his dissatisfaction it would make more sense but I’ll leave it to him to fess up………….
As regards your comment:

There are both "makers" and "takers". For some reason. it seems that you have thrown your hat in with the latter.
The Forum is a service supported by members’ dues and graciously offered to other non-members in the spirit of supporting the broader Winchester collecting fraternity. I’ve enjoyed your meaningful participation in the past and would hope that you can prevail on the spouse to put a membership renewal in your Christmas stocking!

"The purpose of this association is to bring those individuals who have an inclination to collect and preserve for posterity those items which, bear the name, trademark or are associated to the name of "Winchester".
That quote is from a March 1977 flyer produced by the Association.
I hope this never changes about our organization. Directors, officers and members come and go but I hope the original intent of the association never changes.
Sincerely,
Maverick

I have found WACA and this forum to be very useful in helping me be a much better informed collector (although one with a very small collection). There is some very serious research in many areas that has been done and is being done by various people on this forum that I have greatly benefited from. I hope to make a contribution to the Winchester collecting community through my own research on the Model 53. Trouble is, the longer I take, the more interesting stuff I stumble upon. I am aware of other ongoing research projects by others here as well on the Model 1892/92, the Model 65 and the Model 1894. I am also impressed by the amount of time some people are willing to take out of their very busy lives to give quality, well-informed answers to the various questions raised here.

Not true. I just distinguish between organizations, and the variety of individuals which make up an organization. You (taker) obviously don’t appreciate the contributions I, as a maker, have made here, but others do. (I’m assuming that when you say you’ve enjoyed my "meaningful participation in the past" you meant my past dues paying membership; as if dues paying membership is the only way to "meaningful" participation).
I appreciate most of the contributions here, but some not so much. I’m just not going to get butt-hurt when a personality attaches itself to a contribution to my contribution. The OP obviously has some kind of beef with leadership. I merely suggested he ignore the personalities and take what he can from the organization. Apparently, as a member, he’s already given.
Just out of curiosity, can you name an organization that does not suffer, at least to some extent, from my original analysis? If so, I’d like to here about it, kumbaya and everything.
Rick, has it now become a criminal offence against the Regime that now holds power in OUR, The Total Membership’s club, to have an opinion and ask a question, even if the question might be somewhat uncomfortable to the said Regime now holding Court? Is it now a crime that I have to "Fess up" to? I think that as an important official in WACA you should be able to do much better than that. Don’t you agree? Since I’ve posted my initial question as to where OUR WINCHESTER COLLECTOR CLUB is headed, I’ve received a great number of responces from the Membership that seems to have a simular feeling to the one I’ve expressed. Please don’t misunderstand my concern, I want WACA to continue to be the best Winchester collecting club around. You, the club’s officials should look into yourselves and reflect as to just what and where we’re headed. Please remember, all of you volunteered to work for WACA and especially it’s Membership. This should be in the forefront of all of your minds when it comes to OUR club, as I’m sure it is and will continue to be. Now, let me wish all of us, The Total Membership a very Merry Christmas and a most healthy and Happy New Year. Apache #2576
