As with any Winchester purveyor/wheeler-deaker/shyster (take your pick), you have to do your homework and make sure you are getting the genuine article and not a reworked or intentionally “improved” Winchester rifle, as is increasingly the case these days. I’m sure this seller has 100% genuine, not messed with, examples for sale, and I know for a fact they have presented examples that have been intentionally altered for sale, as addressed on this very forum. The big question is did they know these were altered and maybe engaged in that activity themselves, or did they unknowingly purchase a fine Winchester for resale, unaware of the monkey business?
As far as their pricing, how much you wish to (over)spend is a personal decision.

I am going to paraphrase the late George Madis regarding gun prices that are high retail. “You didn’t pay too much, you bought it too early”
Every dealer’s motto. (Though not one they observe when buying for resale.)
Truer words never spoken!

I’ve had the pleasure of dealing with Don and I enjoy seeing what he brings to the shows.

Mike he certainly has some eye candy on his website and probably a true gentleman.
I do feel that some of the newer model 94 carbines he has is double the price what I would pay or fair value imo. But hey, they’re his guns, he can ask whatever he wants, doesn’t mean he’ll get it. Probably why some have been on there for a very long time.

He does have some really nice stuff for sale, but it is usually high priced. He often has for sale some Winchester 22 caliber rifles that are still in the box.
At a gun show a few years ago, I purchased a Model 94 carbine from Don that was used by the Pacific Coast Militia Rangers during WWII. I was able to negotiate the price down a bit. It was still a bit high, but I wanted the gun. After I acquired it, Bert Hartman was able to trace the gun to the actual Ranger who used it. That certainly increased its value. How often do you find a firearm with that kind of provenance?

A lot of dealers have bad stuff along with their good stuff. Internet pictures don’t always show problems so how do you know what you are buying??????Don’t buy guns that you have not actually picked up and examined.
It reminds me of the guns we talk about at the auction houses. Some of those pieces are right as rain, and some are not.

Don actually turns his guns pretty decently. Anything he’s had for awhile will get purged through Ward’s Auction since they are located just a few miles apart in Dallas, OR. I noticed he’ll buy from Ward’s Auction and resell for a profit as well. Don had a good number of Winchesters in the recent Ward’s November auction. In some cases, the guns sold for more through Ward’s than what Don had them for sale for.
