I joined Texas Gun Collectors Assn last year and am kicking around getting a table at next weekend’s show. Never gotten a table at a show but this is a small one with mostly members so may do it just for grins. Been lots of turmoil in the club over the last year, not sure what’s going on.
Any TGCA members here?
You may never sell a gun off a gunshow table, but the comradery of just being there amongst folks that have the same likes as yourself is priceless. I had been doing gun shows sine the very old Vegas days, before the Great Western. I met many nice and famous gun guys. Just being at a gun show with a table is about the coolest thing going. Many of the old gang have passed away, but I figure I am a better man for knowing these folks. Get the table and have a great time. If you have kids, bring them along. My Grandson grew up doing gun shows. Big Larry

Well said! I am not a TGCA member but active participation in our hobby is the only way to keep the interest alive.

Thanks for the encouragement. May be a good opportunity to thin the herd a bit before I go to Cody. I met some very good folks last year, guess I better decide soon and get my registration sent in if I’m going.

Made the calls, reserved a table and a motel room. Had a nice visit with the show chairman, looking forward to meeting him. He made sure I understood they don’t allow black guns, told him I usually deny owning one, lol. I generally don’t bother to attend regular local gun shows but this is different. Have no idea what I’m doing but going to do it anyway.
I am sick about not being able to be at this weekends show, mainly because it’s at A&S. I am at every A& S auction unless there is an emergency keeping me from it. Scotty, Andy, Sam and their family put on a quality auction every time. I have been very curious of how many of the people that I see at their auctions would be set up there and I wanted to put a face with the guns they might bring.
I can’t attend due to a scheduling issue at my steakhouse. Hope they have a great turn out and would love it if someone would post pics of the event on here.

Will see what I can do. The folks at A&S seem to be really good people and the auction last year was a hoot. Sorry you can’t make it, election should be interesting.

I guess you mean the election for TGCA? I am new and not familiar with what is going on but from what has been said there must be some drama going on. Once I get more familiar with the people and the association I will probably have an opinion but as of now, I am just glad to be involved with some groups that have the same interests as I do.
Hope everyone is enjoying themselves in Waco while I am slaving at FIVE D CATTLE CO STEAKHOUSE! LOL

If it makes you feel any better we did indeed have a great time, even had some pretty good steaks last night after the auction. I met several WACA members, seems Cody show flier on my table was a good conversation starter.
I was stuck down in San Antonio and couldn’t make it, I am really bummed!
I will make an effort to be there next year, especially if TXGunNut is selling Winchesters for pennies on the dollar……

Glad to hear y’all enjoyed it. Where did y’all eat steaks at? I’m always looking to check out good independent steakhouses when I am out of town ( my way of making sure it qualifies as a business trip) LOL. I sure wanted to be there but if I am going to continue to buy the Colts and Winchesters that I love then I better keep my mind on my business.
I also look forward to meeting some WACA members in the near future. Thanks for the update!

We had steaks out behind the auction house, dinner was catered by a local family-owned grocery store. Can’t recall the name of the place but I swiped a coozie with their name on it, it will turn up eventually. TGCA has another show this fall in Ft Worth, thinking it’s October. Maybe you can make that one.

Best Regards,
Sorry you couldn’t make it, my shooting buddy flew for Delta and he generally stayed at the Crockett Hotel when he was in town. I understand they have a nice bar & restaurant….or at least they did then.
I honestly don’t know what I was doing right (wrong?) but I made decent money on all I sold other than a shotgun that I bought new at retail and a revolver that I bought by mistake at an auction. I’m not greedy and I was mostly selling to dealers so I know they needed some room to re-sell. I’m not a dealer but most dealers didn’t sell as many as I did. The guy behind me had some very nice Winchesters reasonably priced but nothing I was interested in. The guy beside me didn’t sell a gun all weekend but he had a few nice Winchesters reasonably priced. He pestered me all weekend to buy my “eye candy” 1st variation 1895 and I finally gave in Sunday. It’s going into his “keeper” collection so I know it found a good home. May have sold it too cheap but I made good money on it. I guess it’s hard not to make good money off 30-40 year old safe queens, a minty third gen Colt bought right and a few others that were bought decades ago. Come to think of it I lost a bit on a commemorative but I was glad to see it go. It introduced me to the 38-55 cartridge but I realized I’d never shoot it again.
Only saw a few 1885’s, all .22’s IIRC. Looked pretty hard at a Winder Musket but just didn’t know enough about it to make an intelligent offer.
Bottom line; I liquidated some assets that no longer fit my collection/investment plan. I purchased or traded for guns that fit my collection/investment plan and freed up some investment capital for other acquisitions. The only guns I sold that I’ve fired recently I don’t enjoy shooting. The flat side 1895 was indeed interesting and quite likely a good investment but I’d rather have a shooter.

Everything I’m hearing tells me that I missed a really good time. I am going to look up the date for the Fall show and mark the calendar so I don’t miss out again. So glad to hear that guns were exchanging hands, that is what it’s all about. Thank y’all for keeping us informed.

Should have pics posted on the TGCA site soon, I didn’t take many but one of the directors took a bunch. I don’t think many guns changed hands, hard to say with some of those guys.

May have run into him. Not much into Colts but there were certainly some serious Colt collectors there.

Folks that catered dinner were from the Golinda Country Store. They’re a family owned & operated concern and did their best to see that we had an excellent dinner. Dinner was served at the conclusion of an auction (after I paid for my guns) and my steak was a perfect medium rare. I don’t know if they have a restaurant but I can assure you they know a good steak and how to grill it.
Next trip down this way if you’ll look them up I think you’ll find a kindred spirit.
OTOH if you’re in the mood for prime rib come on up to the Cody show, I happen to know where to get a legendary steak in a legendary restaurant; the Irma Hotel. I already owe Bert dinner so it’s on me.

I will definitely try and look them up next time I’m down that way.
As for the prime rib……this place you speak of has really got my attention. I am planning to make it there, and assuming that works out, I would love to join y’all for dinner. That would be the perfect situation, enjoying a prime rib dinner in a legendary steakhouse, while talking about Winchesters with my new friends!
