If you’d care to venture out and can make it to San Marcos, TX I’d like to invite you to TGCA’s spring show April 23-25 in the convention rooms of the Embassy Suites. Last I heard we’re still having it but admission may be limited due to the current situation. I’ll have a couple of tables and an extra chair or two for anyone who wants to stop by and visit. We have quite a few serious Colt collectors but Winchesters are usually well represented. No beef jerky, jewelry, coins or modern guns allowed.

Looking forward to meeting you, Chris. John Vance or whoever is working the door should be able to tell you where my tables are.

I’ll be in Ohio, unfortunately. Me and two of my old Troop Commanders (I was their 1SG) are turkey hunting for the week. The turkey are pretty safe- it’s more about being together and “sampling” bourbon, rum, beer, vodka, scotch, etc…

Sounds like a great trip! Safe travels, Ronald. I’m betting at least one of you is a good cook, guys I hunt with are all great camp cooks. Exhibitors’ bar at this show opens around 3, Saturday auction gets a little interesting. 😉 They generally don’t have the small batch bourbons I enjoy but I’ll suffer through. I’ll have WACA forms on my table, may be able to add a new member or two.
Hope to see you in Cody!

Had the pleasure of meeting our very own 1892takedown as well as his father-in-law and their chaperone; a bright youngster who probably learned more about old guns today than most of his peers will ever know. Saw some exceptional 1873’s, 1886’s and more1866 and Henry rifles than I’ve seen at any show short of maybe Cody. When I first joined TGCA it was primarily a Colt collectors’ group but several people noticed today the Winchester crowd is gaining ground and some very nice examples are on the tables this weekend. More than a few are WACA members but only a few have been to our Cody show. I sold a few and overall sales were strong, quite a few members of the public came in today despite the passing showers and I’m expecting more tomorrow. Big ticket items are doing well, as are the $500-1000 guns. I’m pretty excited to see many of my collector friends again and we’re having a great time catching up in the hotel bar and over meals. I haven’t been to a gun show since Sept 2019 and that’s been way too long!
I didn’t get a chance to read Chris’ article in the latest Collector, scanned it and looking forward to spending some time with it soon.
I’m getting pretty excited about this year’s Cody show.

It was nice to make it to a show, its been a while. Nice as well to see some old friends there, and make some new ones. And appreciated Mike’s hospitality.
For a small show, I was a surprised to see so many Henry’s and 1866’s, along with quite a number of first model 1873’s, at least 3-4 heavy barreled 73’s, and 10 or more 22 caliber 73’s. And a few of the more scarce guns like an 1886 H-checked deluxe with 34″ oct barrel, and a 1894 38-55 with 30″ oct barrel with button magazine. Quite a few antique holsters and cartridge/money belts. Always looking for a new leather project and like studying the old leather holsters, cartridge/money belts and scabbards. All in all it was a good show, just needed deeper pockets to be able to bring anything home.

Glad you made it Chris, hope you can make it again next year or maybe even this fall in Denton. I enjoyed reading your article with my coffee Saturday morning. There were indeed some remarkable guns there, I generally enjoy a show more if I concentrate on the people and don’t try to buy anything. We have some very knowledgeable members and listening to them is a very valuable experience. Other than a couple of Winchester moulds and a loading tool I didn’t buy anything either but I did clear out a couple Colts and a Marlin. I believe I signed up a few new WACA members and we gained a few TGCA members too. Should be an interesting morning.
