Maybe I need to put that on my list. Easier trip for me than Cody. How are room prices?

Mike,
You can go to Carrollton from Denton on the A-train, transfer to Dart’s Green train northbound to the transit center in downtown Dallas, then take the Blue train to Union Station. Board Amtrak’s Eagle northbound to Chicago in mid afternoon and get off the next morning in Springfield. If you can stand to ride coach instead of Pullman it is much cheaper. Coach one way is about $162, I think. You can probably pay cash and eat supper in the dining car but you can always eat in the buffet lounge. You’ll arrive in Springfield before breakfast so all you need to worry about on the train is supper. Your hotel probably has a shuttle or maybe Tom will provide a ride. I wish I could go with you but duty calls…
Important Safety Tip: Don’t buy anything you can’t ship and don’t be packing on Amtrak. Ever.

Thanks, Bill, but I read your earlier warning about traveling armed on Amtrak. I simply won’t travel unarmed. Years ago I flew armed with the advance permission of the airline captain,. I later checked (and temporarily lost) off-duty weapons on a quick trip to Houston when I wasn’t able to obtain permission and my errand had to wait until they “found” my bag. I think when it was noted the weapons belonged to a peace officer and the serial numbers were known the situation changed. I later took the federal air marshal class in case I was required to retrieve a fugitive. I’ve flown commercial with my weapon in an approved case to attend to some touchy family business. My name is not Bass, Younger or James and I have never ridden with any of the aforementioned so Amtrak has no reason to fear me. That’s OK, I have a very comfortable automobile and these days I probably won’t sleep well on a train. I’m not going to rob a train, they probably don’t carry cash in the mail car anyway. Moot point, the contractors rebuilding my house are spending all my gas and motel money. It’s a damn shame that a company bailed out and supported by taxpayer money is so hostile to 2A rights.
Mike
I agree with you about AMTRAK. It’s grating that they get taxpayer subsidies but violate the 2A.
One of these days a group will.file suit, the ultimate outcome of which probably will be the same as the airlines are required to do — stored unloaded in checked baggage.
When you get further along on your rebuild, Jeremy gets back in town, and the weather cools off a bit. Let’s go shoot some Skeet.

If you change your mind and do take the Eagle, don’t miss your stop.at Springfield. You don’t want to get any closer to Chicago. Mobs are looting freight trains and it’s only a matter of time before they add passenger rail to their agenda. A target guaranteed by federal law to be unarmed.

Come on, you should know that what is written and Constitutional is open to interpretation, and the powers that be do whatever they want, despite what is written. I saw this repeatedly when I worked in a regulatory capacity in the Federal government. Regulations were written, and the powers that be interpret them as they want them to be. Then they have us worker bees do the dirty work. And yet a million excuses as to why their demands can’t be put in writing.
Here is the second amendment:
”A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
And when have you NOT been infringed upon lately? Fill out a form 4473, that’s infringement. Waiting period? That’s infringement.
ANY document written by a powerful public or private entity is just for show. Those in a position of power don’t have to adhere to regulations and yet if they don’t like how it applies to us, they twist it to what they want it to be.
It’s just a way of life now.
The only thing you can do is vote wisely next month. It might not get much better if one political party is voted into office next month, but it surely could get a whole lot worse if the other party wins the election. I’ll have to let y’all do your homework before Election Day as I don’t want to get political here today.
Well, I certainly agree that voting is bottom line important but there are other things that can help, depending on where you live.
Firstly, a letter with lick stamp.postage has an impact on your representatives. Not a form letter, not an email. The recipient and his staff treat such things with far more respect than cynics know. The general assumption is each letter potentially represents the views of thousands of the silent voters.
Secondly, hold your nose and give NRA a few bucks, now that we are no longer funding Wayne’s wardrobe. Ads are expensive.
Consider giving a few dollars to down ballot candidates. Particularly in close races. Don’t be ashamed of giving ten dollars. It adds up.
Thirdly, volunteer to serve as a poll watcher, elections judge or clerk. These are dirty jobs that often go unfilled. At least put up signs.
I am fortunate to live in a red State but unfortunate to live in a blue County. It can be frustrating.
I have lived long enough to see the Chevron deference doctrine emasculated and look forward to seeing the federal administrative state brought to heel, although that cannot be done by any federal.chief executive alone.

Thanks Jeff. Yes, I thought Tom was talking about Illinois. I hadn’t realized the event is to be held in Massachusetts.

To all. Yes I am referencing the WACA show in Springfield Ma. And no I don’t plan on buying anything there as it seems that even with a type 3 FFL your still not going home with anything, to many stupid state rules there. But it is the ONLY WACA event within 24 hours of drive time to me and my son. And I also understand there will not be any deals on anything, thank the internet for that, because it makes everyone an expert and every gun is a one of a kind and the best thing on the market. Maybe a WACA event in the northeast in a state that actually thinks gun ownership is ok would be a better idea. I mean Massholechussets, they’re one of the worst for gun owner rights in the country!

A WACA show? Is there a show list that I don’t know about?… oh, well, wrong again. 🙂 btw… Jeff, too bad you can’t make Tulsa. You need to re re-adjust your priorities! 😉
Yeah, only daughter is getting married and I paid for it, you are right, I should just skip the ceremony and food 😉
Although, I will say that Elliot is leaving the party early to go to the show…..at least his priorities are straight.
I will absolutely be there for the spring show though!

Pennsylvania or Virginia come to mind, although Virginia is south of the Mason-Dixon Line. Or, how are things with regards to this in your home state of New Hampshire?

Ian, I really believe the climate here in NH for gun ownership is less toxic than the southern NH border states. NH currently is a free carry state. I do believe the feds closed the ” gun show loophole” for most every one. NH uses the NICS system for long guns but has it’s own gun line for handguns. The state tried to put in a gun show law a couple years ago and the gov vetoed it. Also currently there is no state waiting period or licensing required for purchases.

Well, there’s the answer then! If a WACA show is to be held in the northeast, unless in Pennsylvania, the next least hostile state is New Hampshire. How about it?
I brought up New Hampshire simply because it votes red occasionally in presidential elections whereas the remainder of New England states vote decidedly blue.
It’s actually reprehensible that Connecticut and Massachusetts are so anti 2A, when their economy and economic well-being depended so heavily on the firearms industry. It’s a part of their history and most folks today choose to ignore it. Which is rather ignorant as America’s independence was dependent on firearms to begin with.
I think there are several reasons why Gun Valley is moving South and Southwest but the regulatory environment and political.hostility have played their parts.
Although Ruger still makes in New Hampshire, a lot of product now comes out of Prescott and Mayodan.
Kimber has established a small facility in, I think, Louisiana. Colt has set up one in Texas. These may be no more than warning shots across the bow but I doubt it.
FN operates here out of South Carolina but, as always, takes advantage of pockets of highly skilled labor wherever it finds it.
When Olin was making Winchester guns, it tried to emulate FN by going to Japan. Italy, and Spain, but was bogged down in American labor disputes and the loss of its Olin Kodensha factory to the Tokyo real estate boom, plus rising Japanese labor costs. [Note well that FN had by then started assembling the labor intensive Browning BSS in Korea from parts manufactured by Miroku in Japan.]
It’s a shame Olin Industries could not take dancing lessons from the Flems well enough or in time to save it’s gunmaking operations. Winchesters still wouldn’t be made in Connecticut but possibly somewhere in the South.
