Gentlemen,

Having no experience on the above topic, I hope to tap a few of you with your knowledge on getting a rifle or revolver from Europe ( Czech Republic, Germany, France ) to the US, if even possible by their laws. First, I assume it must go to an FFL via US Customs. I believe also possibly to an Import/Export company ?

Second, if it does go through an Import/Export company, does the gun get a U.S. import stamp.

I have run into an experience of buying a rifle from a Canadian citizen, and it had to go to an import/export company and physically get stamped on the receiver or barrel. I don’t know if this applies always or certain situations.

Any experience, knowledge or recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Bill

It will need to go through an importer.  Drop me a PM and I’ll put you in contact with one if needed.

Bill,

I purchased one Model 1892 from France and the rifle definitely had to go to an importer.  It was not marked in any way in the process.  The other difficulty can be that some European shippers (airlines) will not transport firearms.  I am away fro mHouston for a couple more weeks and the paper work for that rifle.  I did use Simpsons Ltd for the actual paper work.  Here is their link. http://www.simpsonltd.com/information.php?info_id=4   It can take a few months and several phone calls to make it all happen.

On a side note.  The French owner removed the stock from the rifle.  When it got to the states the rest of the rifle was dropped and the end of the upper tang was bent right at the large hole for the bolt.  I sent it to Mike Hunter and he heated the tang and fixed it beautifully!!!   Thanks so much Mike!

Thanks for the info & story, Michael .

That definitely puts a damper on an impulse buy !
