Hello WACA,

I have been on your forum several times over the years mainly to educate myself on the amazing history of Winchester rifles. Now, I am in the position to part with my small collection and wanted to offer it first here….to real collectors rather than going the dealer route. I am expecting some life changes in the coming year which will involve a house move, potentially cross country, and would like to retire my debts before starting this next phase.

Since I have not been active in this community nor paid attention to market trends in the past 10+ years, I would appreciate any advice on where to price each rifle. I know what I paid 10-15 years ago but understand that is not relevant to the current market.

I will post an overall picture here to anyone interested as well as full pictures in the swap meet forum. I am certainly not a pro photographer but tried to highlight each area of each rifle in natural light. I am happy to jump on a video call with anyone interested to get into further details. All rifles have their birth certificate and are above average to excellent quality. I am not qualified to rate the bluing but know it is higher end for each of the generations. The wood is excellent in quality and fit. The barrels are very clean.

High level details (From left to right):

1894 – octagon barrel, 38-55, serial 69,xxx

1873 – first model, octagon barrel, 44-40, serial 19,xxx

1873 – first model, round barrel, 44-40, serial 1,3xx

Beautiful rifles. I’m interested in what they’re valued at since what we might offer at a show or personal deal isn’t what it might bring at one of the crazy auction houses….will PM later on to see where you landed on price thoughts. Thank you for bringing them here!

Received many responses and interest – thank you so much.

I have done a little research but particularly difficult to find first model 1873s, early and in good condition so a challenge to post a price with accuracy of the market as these are ‘asks’ and not ‘sold’ prices.

However, I have thrown some numbers into each listing to get us started. If you do not like my number, please PM me with yours. I have always believed in discounts for multiple purchases and if someone wants all three, that saves me a bit of work and I would be open to even further discounts. As I mentioned, would love these to go to a good collector home.

  jetdriver,

I’m happy everything worked out for you. From the pictures your rifles were nice, honest, and very collectible.

I just had a friend sell three very nice deluxe grade Winchesters through a big auction house. He bought them recently direct from a collector for a reasonable price then life changed and he sold the guns through  a big auction house. They brought 40% more than he paid but the auction fees used up his 40%, He broke even more or less. He could have sold these guns direct to another collector for the break even price and done himself and the buyer a huge favor. The previous owner  knew what the guns might go for at auction and sold at what he would have got after fees, took the sure thing. Why take the risk. More people should do what you did, my hat’s off to you. T/R
