Should the saddle ring stud position on SRCs be at the 3 and 9 position (i.e., parallel to the top and bottom of the receiver) if original and factory original? Have noticed numerous SRCs where the saddle ring retaining stud is skewed up or down.
Realize the saddle ring imprint/wear on the receiver should match the existing position of the respective stud.
Thank-you.
Saddle rings were put in horizontal starting with the staple.

Yes, the stud as installed by Winchester was always perfectly parallel to the receiver frame. When you see them pointed in any other direction, that is a positive indication that somebody took the ring and stud off. When it was reinstalled (original or otherwise), it was not done so correctly.

This goes for all models?
I’ve seen some minty 76s that aren’t parallel with the receiver, but are with the upper tang.

Maverick
