Yes that’s a real possibility Steve. I think it’s as rare as anyone here seeing a 17” trapper m1894. Nobody has confirmed that one but I didn’t expect them to with only two known of.

Based on my survey of serial numbers 1 – 7999 (First Model survey), S/N 46 is the only SRC with a staple versus a stud for the saddle ring. One thing to keep in mind is that 94% of the first 8,000 Model 1894’s manufactured were Rifles. Per the information provided to me by the CFM for S/N range 1 – 7999, there were 7,457 rifles and just 503 Carbines manufactured.
In regards to S/N 46, it was the first SRC by serial number, but S/N 197 was the first SRC received in the warehouse.
