In the “Book of Winchester Engraving” there is a deluxe 1876 Express rifle, SN 39929 that is said to belong to the Robert R. Vance collection. Does anyone know about Robert R. Vance, for example, what he collected? Also, due to the age of the book, one can presume Mr. Vance has passed away. Does anyone know what became of his collection? Maybe some COPA members have some firearms from his collection.
I call myself a collector as it sounds better than hoarder
Just a thought to all;
Why is it when someone passes on, be it human or animal, the vultures seem to gather? Years ago I had a close friend, a well known firearms collector in the east that passed away quite suddenly. I’m sure a number of you Winchester Collectors would know of him if i told you his name, but I won’t. In any case at his funeral, even before he was in the ground, there were vultures gathering to pick at his collection as if they were his bones. This of course at a “kick an old lady” price. The executor of his estate as it happened was an old lady friend of his. And the vultures did kick her down the stairs to get at his collection. We as people it seems haven’t advanced one iota as far as good graces it seems. I guess some people will always look to get over if they can. Not to say that any of us on this forum would ever do such a thing though. It is however a sad commentary on where some human beings are today just as they were in times passed. In any case, rest in pease Peter, know that not all of us wanted to pick your bones.
