Was wondering if anyone else found this a little creative?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Winchester-1873-Rifle-Shipping-Wood-Crates-RARE-RARE-/181742929536?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a50b90680

I don’t think I could have done better myself.

I would not rush out to buy an authentic crate for a rifle, as most are not ‘authentic’.  I would guess that at least 95%+ were made recently, under false pretenses.  Anyone out there have an authentic crate, WITH PROVENANCE of which they wish to post photos of, so that one can see what is indeed authentic.  Then again, this might just make it easier for the fakers to create a fake rifle.  An original crate, had you asked me 20 years ago, would have been really neat to have to complement a period rifle.  Now, it is something that I would not touch under most circumstances, because the probability of fraud is great.

I see the seller ended the listing early. I checked what else he was selling and its all colt boxes and colt labels for boxes.

Cowans had a junior trap set in the crate a few years back that was one of the only correct ones I’ve seen.

WOW! He got rid of those 10 original crates really fast! He must of had someone walk into his store and buy the whole lot!

I tell you, I’m in the wrong business!
