Anyone planning on going to the NRA Show this weekend? I was giving it some serious thought but haven’t decided for sure. I believe there will be a WACA display there but not sure much else will interest me.

Odd, RIA is holding their premier auction this weekend. Both events practically in my back yard.

I’ve attended 3, each time driving hundreds of miles, last about 20 yrs ago in Charlotte, NC; dozens of displays by makers of guns, ammo, optics, accessories, & a few collector orgs. Best part, however, was meeting major gunwriters–Elmer, Bill Jordan, Peter Capstick, others.
Esp wish I could make it to this one to ask this question in the member’s meeting: how much did NRA flush in legal expenses defending Wayne’s extravagant life-style in the NYS lawsuit? Has he payed some of it back as required in the NYS settlement?
Mike, I might ride the Green Line etc and look around the exhibits on Saturday.
If you go, call me and. I’ll buy your lunch.

I guess I could do both, consolation prize for not getting to go to Greeley. Haven’t tried the Green line or other mass transportation, Bill, might be a good alternative to getting my car stolen off the expensive parking lots in the area. Dallas has a huge auto theft problem and my car contains things vital to my business operations. I’ve met several gunwriters over the years, Clarence. Most recently at the DSC Show at the same venue. I don’t have much use for most of the modern gunwriters as they seem compelled to write about modern guns and/or extreme range shooting or extreme range hunting. Not a fan of many of the current trends. There are a few relative old timers writing for the American Rifleman, wouldn’t mind meeting some of them. I’ve had the pleasure of visiting with Mike Venturino now and then but don’t expect to see him there.
Hopefully we can do lunch another time, Bill. If I go to the NRA show it will be Thursday or Friday, my machines are likely to be busy and may need attention on Saturday.

Your WACA board has decided not to sponsor a Winchester display this year. Not too many members willing to go to the effort to build and show a quality product plus the expense associated with travel, lodging and food has become increasingly unsustainable.

Thursday would be the better of the two days for DART. Assuming the convention is in the Dallas Convention Center, I believe the Red or Blue line goes right to it.
Buy a regional day pass for dirt cheap. Then you can take the Denton train to Carrollton’s Frankford Road Station, get on the Green Line and ride it to the Dallas Transit Center and catch the Red or Blue, whichever stops at the Convention Center. Sound complicated but once you’ve done it it’s a piece of cake. And a regional day pass is less than ten bucks. http://Www.dart.com has the schedules and there’s an app you can download to buy the ticket. A few minutes study of the skeds is all it takes. Is it as fast as a car? Depends on the traffic and the parking situation.
We used to take the train when we had season tickets in the Arts District. And to the State Fair and one NRA Convention.
Denton train has skimpy service at night and on Saturday, no service on Sunday. But weekday commuter times are reasonable.
DART runs 7 days a week, from O dark thirty to midnight.
I wouldn’t risk my 2009 Tacoma in downtown Dallas these days, although I spent a lot of practice days there for 4 decades. No mas, gracias a Dios.

Rick,
Don’t that just nail it?
Maybe when Wayne ponies up, the NRA Board will authorize a dividend to life members. Oh. Wait! I forgot it’s tax exempt and can’t….

I can certainly relate to the travel costs, they have certainly impacted my retirement plans. I may need to break out my camping gear. Hard to pass up the shows in my back yard as I get to sleep in my own bed and buy very few meals.

Bread, cheese, tuna, peanuts, figs (a special extravagance reserved strictly for hardships like traveling) sustained me through a hundred shows. No one will believe this, but I haven’t seen the inside of ANY eating establishment in over 20 yrs; not merely for reasons of economy, but to avoid the grease, salt, sugar, & other poisons.

I was listening to a story on the radio today about restaurants going broke in spite of todays high menu prices. Something wrong there. When I was a kid we travelled thousands of miles a year but most meals were not eaten in restaurants. I enjoy a good restaurant meal but will plan on fewer of them to be able to enjoy more shows. I don’t like convention/concession stand foods as a rule so I won’t be giving up much. I can get by on peanut butter & crackers or sandwiches. I’m certainly willing to give it a try. Need to lose some weight anyway.

According to the show floor plan, WACA does have a table in the Collector’s area, see note to right in screenshot.
Hello
Not sure if it matches the floorplan info or not, but there will be a great-looking display featuring one of the rare Winchester prototype Mason’s Patent revolvers by WACA member Eric Olson, who will also have an article about it in the Summer Winchester Collector.

That’s what/who it says in the booth description exactly, it’s on the right side of that screenshot I posted.
Well, I stand corrected. Since I left the Board of WACA, I am only partially connected to what is going on with our Association and have just been informed that there definitely will be a WACA (Winchester) display at the NRA. Sorry to have intruded.

That’s good news, Rick and Brad. Always welcome. I’m developing an interest in Mason so it appears I’ll be headed into Indian Territory later this week.

Yep, guilty, I didn’t look close at the image or the note. Good thing it says the same thing!
