My 16 gun safe was full, I stumbled across some cardboard long gun boxes at Uline company. The product # is S 20044. They are “evidence” boxes, 25 to a bundle. I’ve used 24 and the little safe is at capacity. I removed the slotted racks, moved the shelf to the highest point where I keep a few pistols. Now I’m storing 24 boxed long guns, two loose hunting rifles and the handguns. This company also supplied a big roll of brown wax paper and some small bundles of cardboard to fashion spacers. The boxes will accommodate a Winchester factory box within. Hope this helps others that may be in a similar “tight spot”.

OfflineMy gun safe I removed the carpeted slotted holder for long guns and I just put each gun in a gun sock and stack them in there like cord wood.

OfflineNow if you have guns in a safe in California where you are pron to earthquakes I would use the box so they don’t rattle together. If your using a cardboard box I would have the guns in a sock since cardboard can be acidic.

The great thing about lever guns is that they are really flat. One of my safes is a 24-gun (rated safe). It has at least twice that many rifles in it, in socks, one up, one down.
I hope to move out of Kalifornia in the next few years though and those boxes could come in handy. Not to change the subject, but has anyone moved a modest (by WACA standards, 100 or so firearms) collection a great distance and any advice?

I just moved into a closet with a lock on the door. LOTS of room!!! And …. you actually get to see your rifles! What an idea!![]()

Jealous. Part of my plan to move is to sell my modest property in California and build a place in Free America where I can build a gun room. Someplace I don’t have to draw my blinds in order to pull a rifle out to admire.
You got any spare acres on that ranch of yours, Michael?

There is a lot of “spare” land around my place. But the prices have at least quadrupled in the past 14 years. Glad that I bought the place back then and only wish I had picked up another 150 acres.

Great Idea! Do they make gun socks for scoped rifles??
Yes they do. Cabela’s sells them and probably other retailers have them.

Twobit, your 61 collection is flat out spectacular. Obviously condition is your priority. Would you be willing to “pick” your favorite 61 and provide everybody with a brief description? Thanks for sharing photos.Tom
Tom,
Right now I am 1500 miles from my “gun safe” but will be happy when I get home to pick a few and post some photos.
Happy Thanksgiving

Not all of us can tell our wives to sell their shoe collection so we can make room for the Winchesters!
Did you catch her out-of-town one day, and have a bonfire in the back yard?

I would never keep my wife from buying another pair of shoes. She has her toys and I have mine. Luckily she also has her own walk in closet and I used part of mine for the rifles.
