I bought a 1921 manufactured Model 1895 in nice, original condition. I’m curious about a brass marker about the size of a nickel on the butt stock with the number “9”. It’s raised from the wood surface, not embedded. The marker looks old like the rest of the rifle. ![]()

Anybody know what that might be telling me?
