Has anybody used a magnetospeed with lever guns? Tried any blackpowder loads? Looking to purchase a chronograph and like the selling points of magnetospeed. I shoot in my backyard, so setting up a Caldwell isn’t an issue, just wasn’t sold on the stability and light sensitivity of the unit.
I have used my friends Magneto Speed a few times but never on a lever gun. I can’t see any reason why it wouldn’t work. The unit clamps to the barrel and possibly in your case around the magazine too. Black powder should have no effect. All of these chronographs work off the bullet crossing sensors except the LabRadar. The magneto speed is magnetic. The new Magneto Speed has bluetooth which makes it easier to navigate on your phone instead of the little box. The units like the Caldwell usually are placed about 10′ from the muzzle. Using units like the Caldwell would also work fine. I have an Oehler 35 and a LabRadar. I have had the Oehler for at least 30 years and haven’t had any problems with the light sensitivity. The LabRadar is my go to these days and use it every week.
