Any specs on the de capping pin for one in .38-55 ? If anyone makes them I would buy one rather than make my own but I can make one with the length measurement.

Overall length of the “plug” is 2-3/4″ in length, combined with the pin on the end it comes to about 3-1/16″. The pin on the end is approx. 1/2″ in length with about half inside the end of the plug with slightly over a 1/4″ protruding from the end of the plug. The plug is mostly straight up to about the 2″ mark it begins to slightly taper to the end of the plug.
Unless you’re trying to replicate an original pin exactly, I don’t see much point in getting the exact dimensions perfect. As you don’t use the tool in any manner to de-cap a primer. The plug can be placed inside the die for storage, but likely came loose in the box with the tool. In fact the only mention of de-capping on the instruction sheet is simply one sentence. “Use the plug which accompanies the outfit to knock out the primer.”
I have yet to find anyone that has made an true exact replica of these pins. Reproduction pins are easy to spot.
I have used a universal de-capping pin or a bench press decapper. The later being a lot easier to manage.

Thanks Maverick . While I would love to have a correct original pin a functional reproduction will do . I like using the old tools for my older guns and for cartridges that I don’t load large quantities of . You can actually decap on the tool , insert the pin into the cartridge being sure the pin is in the flash hole then insert the cartridge and pin into the die and screw it in till you feel the primer come out. I imagine the taper allows a better fit in the bullet portion of the die. I have modern tools for everything I load , if you consider made after 1915 and before 1975 modern, as well as 310 sets for all but I wanted to use this 1894 tool for a Winchester 94 and one of the modern Winchester/ Miroku 1885’s .
