Sorry to hear about Big Larry. I always appreciated his Forum comments – he knew his stuff and was straightforward with his comments. Like me, he appreciated the old Winchesters that were high condition and had not been screwed with. Based on comments he made over the years, many of his guns were going to family – hope they enjoy them.

I am sorry to hear of Big Larry’s passing.
Burt, is this 1873 an acquisition from or a sale to Big Larry?

Ian – no, but Big Larry really liked the 73 – it has been in my safe for 40 years – 44-40 and letters. As you know, most of my collection has been sold but based on comments Big Larry often made about leaving guns to family, this 73 may go to my son although he has no interest in them.

Sad news indeed – not what we like to hear.

Yes, Larry was unique in such a wonderful way. And he sure liked nice Winchester’s. And minty pre war S&W .38/44 Outdoorsman with Hump Back hammer in the box too.

Rest In Peace Marine. You will be missed by many.

Bill

So sad to hear of his passing.  I first met Big Larry over 35 years ago when he used to display his military shotguns at the Great Western Show in Pomona, California.  When that show closed, I would see him at the Big Reno Show in Reno Nevada.  But for health reasons he had to stop doing that show several years ago.  He was a mentor of mine when I started collecting military shotguns.   When his collecting interests changed from military shotguns to Winchester 22s, he offered to me his military shotguns a couple of which I purchased from him and still have.  He was very generous with firearms information.  He will be missed.

Surprising and sad news indeed, I certainly enjoyed reading “Big Larry’s” posts here and S&W forum.

I have been off the grid this week and was deeply saddened to hear of Larry’s passing.  Our mutual friend Tom kept me updated when he was admitted to the hospital and then ultimately passed.  It was sudden and short and I am still in shock at how quickly it happened.

As others have mentioned, Larry was sometimes a bit gruff as he was a no nonsense guy but he was a deeply kind-hearted and generous person. One of Larry’s personal creeds was to never own a gun that you had to make excuses for.  I use that same philosophy with my friends and Larry was a no excuse needed good friend.

He touched many of our lives, both online and in-person and he will be sorely missed.

“If the Army and the Navy ever look on Heaven’s scenes; They will find the streets are guarded By United States Marines.”

SEMPER FI and RIP my friend
