If you’re compiling for a research survey, I have an LAPD stamped 97.  It was my grandfather’s.  He passed before I was born, and supposedly won it in a poker game in the 50s.  I can’t imagine it’s a fake.  Patina in the stamps is the same as the rest.  It has been in my family since he got it, and none of the other people who have had it were gun people until me.  I got it from my aunt about 5 years ago as she was preparing to take it to a gun buyback.

I have no idea how to post pictures here, but I can email them.

I have an 1894 saddle ring carbine that was purchased from an auction 45 years ago. it is an LAPD with armoury number 83 on . It is time to let someone else enjoy it. It shoots well and is in excellent condition but has been carried extensively. My Name is Randy  [email protected] if anyone is interested. I paid $1000 for it 45 years ago and see them selling from 2400 on up to 3300. Make me an offer. I can send photos.

Hi, I’m a new member and intrigued by the potential history of my Model 97.  It has L.A.CO stamped on the stock.  No other markings.   I acquired it from a now deceased friend some years ago and any history known then is now lost, as Roy Batty said, “Like tears, in rain”.

I have pictures by am not able to upload them to this yet?

I welcome any comments.

If you post the complete serial number we can at least tell you when it was made.  The history of Winchester firearms is hard to trace.  No records of the original owner exists.
