A small LED bright light and a drop in bore light solves that problem. I carry a Larry light and can scan a gun in seconds, it saves the hassle of trying to take someones gun outside. You see every patch of cold blue like it was painted a different color.
At Tulsa on setup day only half the lights are on and that’s when the guns are coming out of cases. The lighting should be in your pocket! T/R
T/R – that’s an excellent, simple, inexpensive suggestion. I suspect a fraction of 1% of people do this but now that’s you’ve made the suggestion, maybe the practice will grow. In my small kit, I carry a small three foot retractable tape measure. I also make sure I have a small notebook and pen along.
The only things I carry are a pencil, note pad and a white card the size of a business card. The card is placed in the chamber and aimed at a light while I peer down the barrel. This card is in my wallet all the time. I used to carry a light and a magnifying glass too. I just hate all the stuff in my pockets including all of the business cards I collect during a show and a cell phone, keys and many times a hotel room key card.
Too much stuff.
I also carry a roll-up gun sock in case I buy something. Usually I put my stuff in a small carry-on type case. That way if I purchase some small items, I’ve got a way to carry them. It can depend on the season of the year. If I’m wearing a big winter coat with lots of big pockets, that increases the options.

To me more pockets just leads to more stuff and then I have a hard time figuring out which pocket has what I am looking for.
I’ve gone to wearing cargo pants and carrying a lite backpack. The backpack will hold a lot of various things and I keep zip lock bags and packing supplies for any smalls I buy. Smalls like ammo boxes, tools, molds, books, advertisements, things of that nature. Also a notepad, pin, loop, flashlight, camera. I also carry a small iPad around with some reference materials on it and use it to show people what I’m talking about, looking for, etc. Note pad is good for writing contacts down, its always nice making a new collector friend.
Its never good to have metal on metal contact and I learned quickly no one ever has anything extra to give you to wrap anything up with.
The cargo pant pockets are good for holding a decent amount of cash on your person.

Maverick, I do like the extra pocket for my stash. Secured and out of the way and I don’t have to mess with it while I’m digging for something else. Lost more than 1 room key card when my cell phone cover snatches them and they fall on the floor when I pull the phone out.
Used to load all my pockets but it’s turned into a Small backpack, loaded with small tape measure, flashlight, red book,Ipad for informative screen shots, coffee& snacks(if I leave I might miss something). In the truck there are clean towels and case Incase I find something.ill admit it sometimes gets annoying but to me it’s worth lugging around.

I generally get a table at the collector shows I attend so I can visit more and not need to lug stuff around. I do carry an old-school briefcase with a tape measure, two bore lights, price tags, Sharpie, extra ties (safety first!) and a pair of side cutter pliers. It also contains a firearms inventory, a Red Book, an iPad, C & R license copies and ATF C&R list. Another bag holds gun socks for transport and to give to buyers who request them and a Blue Book for Brand X guns. It also has a rag in a bag with a bottle of CLP and my container of Ren Wax in case I get bored and want to give my “eye candy” a museum-worthy sheen. I’ve also been known to stash a few peppermint candies and a package or two of peanut butter crackers somewhere in all that luggage.
