Spent the weekend at the Texas Gun Collectors’ Show in Waco re-structuring my little collection. Planned on taking 5-6 guns but by the time I found the guns I was looking for I had 11 guns laid out. A few have been safe queens for 20+ years and that’s just not acceptable. None fit the collection profile I have in mind so they wound up on my table. I wasn’t able to make it down there Friday when most of the members do business but as I was setting up Saturday one member bought one, then another rifle. Didn’t even have time to hang price tags. Wound up selling five guns Saturday, four today with a partial trade. Lost a bit on two yesterday but more than made up for it on the rest. Bought two Brand X guns at our club benefit auction last night so I didn’t bring it all home but I’ll admit I haven’t seen that much cash in a looong time, I didn’t even try to count it all until I got home.
Bad news is I don’t think I have any trading material to bring to Cody. Guess I’ll just bring a few show & tell guns and call it good.
Good news is the TGCA show is like the shows we loved 30 years ago. No black guns, no jerky, no milsurp or prepper stuff; just old collectible firearms. About half the tables are mostly display tables, many of the guns have price tags for 2-3 times a reasonable price but that’s OK, they’re fun to look at. Many historic guns on display and their stories were told (or written). All the members are happy to tell you about their guns and I learned quite a bit, just like 30 or more years ago. Last night’s auction benefitting the club was a lot of fun, may have something to do with the bar opening at 2p, auction started @ 5:30.
Wish I could have been there and disappointed you won’t be bringing anything to Cody. Sure you don’t have some extra Winchester .22’s stashed away for Cody?

I suspect I won’t show up empty-handed. I was looking for a nice .22 but didn’t see anything I really liked other than a sweet 1890 that a friend traded for. Pretty sure it’s headed back to CA with him today.
Money usually talks bigger than a trade and now you won’t me encumbered and loaded down with your own stuff and will have more time to look at the fancy, overpriced guns others have on their tables. The best reason I find for overpricing is most folks don’t want to sell, they want to BS and tell stories of past glory, which is the actual best part of a gun show. Getting with friends after the show for dinner is great too. Big Larry
