We remodeled our house earlier this year and I wanted to take a small bed room that we were able to vacate and turn it into a western/man cave and gun room. My daughter is a real genius in this kind of work and she told me how to prep and change the one wall for the rustic look of corrugated metal and barn wood.
I talked to a local ranch that had a barn collapse and got some barn wood and corrugated metal. Then Caroline painted one wall black where we were going to put up the barn wood and metal, so that any cracks or holes in the barn wood wouldn’t show with a lighter color.
Cutting the metal at an arbitrary height, she then screwed it to the wall with the aid of a stud finder. After some trim was put on top, we divided the wall into three sections and then cut barn wood and started screwing it onto the wall. After dozens of trips from the garage, where we had the saw and materials, we finally got the wall covered and ready for the next step of displaying guns.
We started in the bare wall to the right to get the Sharps rifles that were shipped to Bozeman for the Montana buffalo hunts in the 1870’s. It was tedious and crude, but it looks pretty good…

Looks great! I like the diagonal use of the barn wood. Outstanding displays on the other walls. That’s not a man cave, it’s a museum.

I love it. Thank you for sharing.I hope others will post up pics of their gun rooms/man caves.
Well, my loading room was hard hit by a tornado awhile back. Windows have been replaced , exterior walls repaired. Loading equipment and components removed. Not much to look at, that’s why I enjoyed Shrapnel’s post so much!
Mike
Mike and Shrapnel, I WON’T post any pictures of my reloading room! It looks as if Mike’s tornado was captured inside the room! Its a case of 50 lbs of crap stored in a 10 lbs container. It was neat, organized and clean at the beginning. I had never had the time to have such space to myself when on active duty, so began to accumulate and expand. The tidal wave of expansion overtook the volumetric confines! I then have a separate gun room. I swore I would keep it neat, clean and tidy. Well, I lied again! Similar story, I’ve outgrown its confines! In my earliest days in communications we built dial central offices–remember those things? Doctrine said to over build by at least 50%. I should have learned! Tim

I usually have a few guns on display and Shrapnel’s project is indeed inspiring. Looking forward to adding a display or two as things go back together. My reloading room will look as well organized as Shrapnel’s someday…but it won’t last!
Mike
After looking at some of the reloading rooms you fellows have, I don’t feel so bad about how mine looks… it is much more organized (more neatly laid out). I suspect that it is the “submariner” instinct still guiding my habits.
