Sad to say I heard the awful news that Don Grove passed away today. He was a great guy and I always enjoyed talking to him and Jan at the gun shows. I bought a few really nice Winchesters from Don over the years and don’t regret a single one of them. Although at the time I felt I was paying top dollar, but Don was always willing to wheel and deal, trade, etc. If you were ever unhappy with a purchase, he was always willing to make it right. I do realize in his later years, some of the guns he offered had originality issues, but as with any dealer, one must do their own due diligence before sealing the deal. Just thought I should share the news with the fellow Winchester Collector community as he will be missed.

Don

Very sad to hear. I really enjoyed visiting with Don at the shows (plenty of friendly banter always took place). I purchased a half dozen guns from him over the years and I’m glad I still have several of them in my collection to remember him by. He knew his health was fading years ago and shared that with us. That said, he continued to trade guns right to the end because he loved his Winchesters and all the friends he made along the way. I will sure miss seeing him at Cody, among other shows.
Rest in peace, my friend …… and prayers for Jan and the rest of his family during a tough time.

Thanks for passing along the sad news, Don. Cody show won’t be the same without him.

Like many who have posted previously, I too had dealing’s with Don and Jan years ago. We all agree that we might have had to pay up a little but much was the same with others such as Tommy Rholes, etc…………Buyer beware as they never held a gun to our heads as I remember. May he rest in Peace.

Looks like the website has been updated. Due to Don’s passing, shutting down the site 2/1/24 and “All inventory is at Ward’s Collectables Auction, Dallas, OR.”

The End…so sad.
I can’t say that I purchased any old Winchesters from Don, but in the early days of the Winchester Model 53 survey, I reached out to Don to see if he had any records of Models 53 and 65 that he might have had. I was impressed and pleased with how he gladly sent me all the descriptions and serial numbers of the various 53’s and 65’s that had passed through his hands. I’ll always remember that.
