Did Winchester groove all the receivers on the 22 mag. model 61?
Good morning,
The Model 61 receiver tops began to be grooved during 1954 in the 215000 SN range. The 22 Mag was introduced during 1960 and all the rifles have grooved top receivers.

Thank you for the reply.
Glad to help! If you have a Model 61 I would love to add it into a research survey I am working on. Please read the following:

Mr. Michael,
I have 2 61’s. I believe I have posted these 2 rifles but if not here they are. The oldest is s/n 39756. There is not a letter below the s/n. It has a steel butt plate and the receiver is not grooved. Stamping says .22 S. L. or LR. The top tang is tapped. The second one is s/n 328346 with an A below. It has a hard plastic butt plate and the receiver is grooved. Stamping says .22 WIN MAG. R.F. The top tang is not tapped. Hope this helps.
