Question: What gun case have you used successfully when traveling by commercial airline with 10-20 long lever guns?
I’ve had great success with transporting old Winchesters as baggage in aluminum cases made by ICC. They call their model ‘Impact Aluminum Rifle Case’, double scoped model. (Link attached) I’ve carefully packed up three rifles in these and have never experienced even a light blemish when traveling from Alaska to West Coast and back. These particular cases are flat, sturdy, fairly lightweight, lockable with most standard shank TSA padlocks, and they are easily banded together to check in as fewer bags when returning home empty.
That said, these cases are getting harder to find in stock locally and prices have jumped from $225 to $300, causing me to reevaluate which ones to buy next, since I buy 3-4 at a time.
While I’m inclined to stay with what has worked even with the increase, it’s made me curious enough to see if someone else has had successful experience with any particular cases used on airlines?

I believe I’ve used that case a bit but not for airline travel. I’m not sure but it appears they made a version of that case for Cabela’s as mine is very much like the one you linked to. I bought it for a severe duty travel case for my hunting rifles mainly because they had it heavily discounted at the time. Quite honestly I’d cringe at the thought of shipping your beautiful rifles via commercial airline, hope all goes well.
I use Pelican cases. They are a bit heavy but they are air/water tight, float and are guaranteed for life. I have had several replaced for free in the last 30 years.

ThanX for feedback!
I’ve also got a couple of the Pelican cases and haven’t had guns damage inside them but the airlines did manage to take a few chunks out of one on it’s first sojourn…I like that they are weather sealed, whereas the aluminum are not.
Yes, airline baggage handlers can put cases to the test and I also cringe to travel these days but life in Alaska pretty much mandates it. As stated, the aluminum cases mentioned have, so far, provided damage free protection for these old Winchester family members in the hands of the airlines, but I’ve heard the horror stories, especially from friends that travel the world to hunt with their expensive rifles/optics/etc. About to roll the dice again in August, traveling with 6 Wins to Lower 48…hopefully I won’t have any horror stories to bring back and share!
