Thanks for the words of encouragement, gentlemen! The support and generosity of friends, family and complete strangers has been amazing. The federal and state officials I’ve worked with have remarked about how quickly things started happening around here. No surprise to me, I and my neighbors were involved in rescue efforts while the tornado was still in the area just a few miles east of us. I’m going to put “Normalcy” on my “to Do” white board.
It was good to see so many of you in Cody, a nice escape from a rather challenging situation here at home. I’m scheduled for another escape from reality next month, I’ve accepted Kevin Hogan’s invite to be a guest of RIA at their Premier Auction. I’ll get a bidder number but my checkbook is going to take years to recover from this disaster.

Was a bit disappointed that American Walnut flooring is not available. I think this will do. Cleaning crew (me!) has a busy weekend ahead. Moving crew bringing guns and books home next week! Same moving crew is bringing loading room benches and shelves in from on-site storage so I’m setting a target date of February 1 for getting my loading room back online!

Thanks, Rick! I’m on a long term recovery committee meeting next week, hoping we can make a Christmas wish come true for some of my neighbors. Many were hit much harder than I was. Our grants are a “last resort” proposition but we are hopeful.

The adventure resumes! Santa came early and he was driving a big red moving truck. My friends who own a local moving company met me at an undisclosed location to pick up my guns and books to bring them home. They also moved my reloading room furniture back into place. Going to be fun getting all those guns back into their safes, I’m thinking a few will stay out for a few days. It’s been a long time since I had anything other than social equipment around here!

It’s been a long haul, Mike. I’m glad you can finally see to the end of this nightmare.BRP
Timothy-
It’s been tough going, for sure, but I won’t describe it as a nightmare. I was truly blessed from the very beginning of this ordeal that I and my home survived this powerful storm and further blessed to be able to help others who were not so fortunate. My reconstruction phase is complete, now I get to put the pieces back together. I’ll never be able to forget those kids I was not able to help but that comes with the territory, I’ll deal with it eventually. I’ll also never forget the support of my community, both local and virtual. Tomorrow night I’m meeting with other members of our long term recovery committee, I hope we can make some one’s Christmas wish come true! The moving van that brought my guns home was appropriately painted red, my Christmas wish has already come true!

Mike, Congrats! AS stated, its been a loooong haul for you. So glad you are getting your room returned to prestorm normal! Tim
Thanks, Tim! I’m making a few changes to my loading room; workbench was turned 90 degrees to enhance workstations at the loading bench and workbench. Toting tools and components in from onsite storage will probably take weeks, I still have a few other projects to address as weather permits. I visited with our county emergency management guy today, he says his state and federal counterparts feel we are moving along well ahead of most communities in our situation. I’ve resumed my neighborhood walks and the progress I see is very encouraging.

Congratulations on the successful recovery. Everything you’ve gone through must have been very trying. I’m impressed with the positive attitude you’ve maintained through this ordeal.
But the restocking and rearranging of the guns and reloading equipment actually sounds like a fun and rewarding exercise. Enjoy!

Thanks, Paul. I’m experimenting with inventorying my loading room tools, equipment and components. I started with an inventory of the bulk bullets and lead ingots that serve as ballast in my safe. I’ve already found some bullets for another member I thought I had but wasn’t able to locate. I’m not planning on maintaining a current inventory record, just a snapshot to use as a baseline. I’m very excited about getting my loading room up and running. I’ve had a certain 38-55 project eating on me for over a year and I’m anxious to resume that project.
And yes, we were able to award a grant to one of our clients tonight and made progress on moving other cases forward!

I have to ask—
Now that these firearms are back where they belong, where was this undisclosed location? Did you rent a unit at a secure U Haul facility where the value of the average unit might have $1000 worth of objects in it and hope that no one pegged yours as having far more valuable items?
I equate this to a coworker from 3 decades ago now who had a great uncle on the RMS Titanic who was a diamond merchant and traveled Third Class so as not to draw attention to himself. Unfortunately, traveling Third Class backfired and ultimately proved fatal.
