Since we don’t talk about weather here anymore just do a search of Valley View, TX. Short story is a well armed moving crew relocated my beloved Winchesters to a climate controlled storage unit last Sunday afternoon and I’m essentially homeless. I’m still planning on making it to Cody, I figure one motel is as good as another at this point. If you see my ugly mug on TV I wasn’t able to avoid the reporters apparently stalking me, but so far, so good! I’ll have some stories to tell at Cody, one is a guaranteed tearjerker.

Very glad to hear it! Disasters like this attract quick-buck con-artists from far & wide, because there aren’t enough local builders to handle the work. Let’s hope that, after the $100+ billion our gov’t has spent to fight the Russians, there’s still enough left in the till to provide adequate funding for FEMA.
Whatever price the motel gives you, ask “what’s your commercial rate?” I never understood why motels aren’t required by law to post their prices outdoors, just the way gas stations do.

Mike-
That’s TERRIBLE!!! I hope everyone close to you is OK… Guns too…
It’s ironic that just a couple weeks ago a WACA member who lives near Houston, with whom I was discussing items in a then-upcoming auction, was seriously impacted by the tornado down there that knocked out power for about 1.5 million Houstonians… Some of his company buildings were heavily damaged…
Instead of chasing Winchesters, he spent that week rounding up and providing generators/fuel/supplies to his employees in the area who were either homeless or without power…

I tried the commercial rate, it’s an extended stay motel so most folks are here on the company dime. I wasn’t able to use my company card as it was compromised Monday to buy thousands of dollars worth of concert tickets in Commiefornia. Hasn’t been a great week, can’t even go shooting since most of my guns are in storage.

Thanks, Lou! I’m not seriously injured but I suffered the worst sprained ankle I’ve ever had rescuing three young kiddos from a neighbor’s pond. Two of their siblings were among the fatalities. My brother brought up a generator from Houston (small world!) to power my fridge and freezer until we gave up on that and moved perishables into my big motel fridge.
Guns are good, other than a few retained for social equipment all are in storage.

After the “Ice Storm of the Millennium” 20 yrs ago, swindlers brought in generators on flat-bed trucks to sell at 3 or 4 times the list price, & many were desperate enough to buy them. The ones caught red-handed were prosecuted for price-gouging, but most cleared out before they were snagged.

I guess one lesson in all this is “have a plan”. Most movers won’t touch guns or ammo. Mine showed up armed, I taught them how to handle cased guns at the Fall TGCA Show. Second is insurance. Most homeowners’ policies are very little help with anything more than a very small collection. Mine are covered now even though they are offsite.

Mike, I’m shocked and really don’t know what to say. Keep us informed. I hope you will still make Cody.
Quite honestly I’m just getting over the shock, Chuck. I woke up thinking about packing up my loading room.
It seems my 38-55 project is on hold once again. I have some rounds loaded and waiting by the door in my range bag.

This is the kind of shock you never get over, like the ice storm that struck here 22 yrs ago, which I remember like it was yesterday. But that’s an enormous amount of stuff to move! Has power been restored to your neighborhood? Have you been able to get a carpenter or electrician out to tell you what can be done, even if they don’t have time to do the work now? If you could make even part of the house livable, you might put off this job.

The one thing I would like to add is, Are you OK? I hope so!!!!!
Yes, thanks. Getting a little better every day. Today was not a good day but nobody died. I’m pretty sure I hurt someone’s feelings, tho.

Here’s one for the Colt collectors: I was across the street talking to my neighbor Carmelo. I watched someone walk over to my storage container, look around and walk in. I hurried over there (as best I could) and ordered him to come out. He bowed up a bit and said “no comprende Ingles”. Turns out he “comprende” Colt .45 just fine! My Spanish is a bit rusty. Took him over to Carmelo at gunpoint so he could explain all the details. Kid now understands we have no shortage of guns or places to hide bodies.

Did he miss Gov Abbott’s free buss ride to NYC? Where he’ll be put up in a 4-star hotel with all the amenities; nothing’s too good for Biden’s amigos.

He’s apparently working for a contractor working on my neighbor’s house. Pretty sure he’s the one who caught my storage container on fire using a cutting torch. Definitely not getting a Christmas card from me this year.

Bravo Zulu as the Navy would say! Well done, Mike!
Thanks, Tim. Even us old guys can be pretty hard core when needed. I’m already three rounds down in this adventure but I won’t run out any time soon.

Mike, Should I bring you some .45 ACP if we meet at Cody?! Tim
No, always been a single stack guy. Don’t practice spray & pray so I’ll make it last. Thanks anyway.
