I’m a new member of WACA.  Just joined.  I recently purchased a beautiful example of a Winchester model 94, Pre 64.  Based on my serial number, my gun was manufactured in 1961, along with a total of 30,179 of these guns made that year.

My question is

Is there anyway to get a copy of the original documentation surrounding the manufacturing of my actual gun (my serial number) from Winchester Repeating Arms Co.?

Any information on helping me attain this documentation would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Dave

Dave,

Where did you come up with “30,179” Model 94s manufactured in the year 1961? To the best of my knowledge, the actual production number was more than twice that many. The estimated serial number range for the year 1961 is 2453501 – 2519000.

In regards to any original documentation for your Model 94, unfortunately none survives. For the Model 1894, the factory ledger records exist for serial numbers 1 – 353999 only (at the Cody Firearms Musuem). The CFM also has the Polishing Room serialization records for serial numbers 1 – 1352066.

Bert,

I got that serial number info off of the internet (go figure it was wrong!).  I forget what link or site I was on?  Anyway, I really appreciate your help with this.  I certainly don’t plan on ever selling this rifle (actually I plan on purchasing more Winchester rifles in the future, as I’m sure everyone else in the WACA community does).  I just wanted to properly document the rifle for historical sake (like you would a classic car).

Again, I appreciate you taking the time to help me in this matter.

Best Regards,

Dave Stollsteimer

David,

If you use the serial number look-up tool here on the WACA website, you have at your disposal the most accurate source of DOM information available on the internet.

Bert,

Thanks for the info.  I will do that.  This is one of the reasons I joined WACA, for a source of accurate info and to be able to talk to knowledgeable people and historians of the brand.

Thanks again,

Dave
