This is a follow-up to last weeks case coloring episode. The premise is comparing the 1890 Winchester I color case hardened last week to several original case colored firearms. I have to admit though, it was really just an excuse to shoot some interesting old guns. BTW, I fell in love with the ranch ’86 and the “ultra rare” bolt peep sight.

Very nice, Mark. Glad your better half let you raid her safe for this episode. I suppose we’ll always wonder what case hardened colors actually looked like 120 years ago but that 1895 and a few others in the Winchester collection are our best clue.
Getting a little chilly up there on the ranch?
Mike
Thanks Mike. She’s a really good sport about letting me use some of her guns. That Lightning was a blast to shoot, but I couldn’t hit anything with her beautiful Single Action Army. I had to edit that poor example of shooting out of the episode to save my reputation as a marksman.
It’s a shame that the beautiful case colored finish is the least durable and that so many of the original case colored guns have faded. I suppose that’s one of the reasons that the ones that survive are so desirable to collectors today.
We’re having some beautiful late fall weather, but yes it’s getting a little chilly. Thankfully, I got a good supply of firewood in this fall. Mark

Mark, I’m impressed with your ability to throw lead out of these old guns. You made my morning! Thank You. T/R
Thanks T/R! I genuinely love shooting these old guns. I hadn’t shot several of those guns, so it was pretty exciting when I actually hit something!
