Hi, I would like to introduce myself as a newbie to WACA, I live in Lancashire County in Northern England. I have had a love of Winchesters over all of my long years having been given a (Lone Star?) Winchester 1873 cap gun when I was seven or eight. I loved to read the comics and watch the movies featuring all my Western heroes.
Over the years I have built up a collection of original Winchesters featuring models 1873, 76, 86, 90, 92, 94 and 95, I reload for and shoot all of them, most are pre 1900 and original in all respects as far as I can tell.
Ownership and use of firearms is rather restricted in England due to Firearm Certificate requirements and the fact that Britain is a comparatively small island. However we get along with it fine and have good shooting ranges and land to shoot over for deer and fox, grey squirrel etc.
I also enjoy shooting my British muzzle loading and cartridge rifles and shotguns, I’m looking forward to learning more about my Winchesters from you guys, I was recommended to join by Mark Douglas of The Cinnabar, my favourite channel and much appreciated by my pals. there is a lot of interest in classic Winchesters here in England, as we know, these lever guns are very addictive!
Welcome Errol; Like Your self I have had a love affair with the “cowboy” lever guns since I was a kid. I live in southern Ontario Canada, farm country, and have always had easy access to some fine old Winchesters, Colts etc.. My dad bought Me a Cooey 22 , (Canadian made), when I was 11 to be used when He was along. By time I turned 12 I was off on weekend camping trips down the river , by Myself, carrying My .22 and a fishing rod. I think I was 17 when I got My first Lever gun , a Model 1893 Marlin . I have had several thousand Lever guns over the past 58 years and I don’t see any end in sight. I am going to the Calgary Alberta show on the 7th and 8th of this month and hopefully may acquire another one or two. I sent a fella in England a 1892 Winchester a couple of years ago, it took a little doing but We got it there. Any ways again , welcome and look forward to seeing pictures of some of Your Winchesters and others.

Welcome –
If you’ve been watching Mark’s channel, that tells me you already have learned a whole lot about Winchesters. I’ve collected all of the models you mentioned with the exception of the Model 1890. As the Model 1886 is my favorite (although many others are close) let me ask you, what chambering is your Model 1886?
Hi to all and thanks for the warm welcome. Thanks for the thumb nail of your Leverguns experience to date Henry, I wish I could attend the Calgary Show, our best English show IMO is the Birmingham Arm Fair, quite a large event by our small island standards with some very high quality items displayed for sale, not many classic Leverguns nowadays though. That’s an amazing number of lever guns which you refer to passing through your hands and no mistake! I hope that you find something of interest there. I must brush up on photo posting!
Well Clarence, I haven’t yet owned any Deely & Edge or Farquaharson falling-blocks, I’ve owned one or two Edge percussion sporting guns and have had the pleasure of handling a fine Gibb-Farquharson some time ago, I believe it was one of the last ones made, about 1909 IIRC. I will keep by eyes open.
Steve 004, good to hear from you, the ‘86 is perhaps my favourite too, I have two in .38-56, one of which I’ve never fired due to its exceptional condition, the other was my first ‘classic Winchester. I also have a couple of .40-65’s one with extra length 28” barrel with set trigger, a .40-82 pistol grip set trigger and a .45-90 half magazine which I’ve been shooting tonight. The other ‘86 is a modern (1985?) Browning Winchester Carbine in .45-70, a great shooter!
Hi Mark, Great to hear from you and yes, thanks for the introduction to WACA, I very much enjoy your channel and the way you present your enjoyable information giving videos, I recommend it to my pals here in England. One of my old pals is now not in the best of health, he was the person who passed his love of Winchester’s to me, I can’t tell you how much he enjoys your channel Mark. He was a great smith on Winchester’s, Colts and the like and is now more or less confined to the house. Please keep up the good work!
